I’ve been given permission to start this thread about HP themed ideas that fall outside the category of merchandise.
The focus is to share ideas for decorating, making handmade items and planning events that reflect the character of the Wizarding World. Since Jo Rowling broke the Statute of Secrecy and showed us muggles a glimpse into the magically community, I have enjoyed pretending I live there. My house is full of Harry Potter stuff, but very few things are official merchandise. I’m betting I’m not alone.
So come on! Share with us how you express your magical side! (My post or posts are on the way Be warned... I’m really obsessed! But don't wait for me. )

QUOTE Be warned... I’m really obsessed! But don't wait for me. Yay for obsessed fans! I'm one too. Here's an idea: if you sew (or in my case know someone who can sew) it is super easy to make your own Hogwarts school or Quidditch robes. I had a friend make me a Gryffindor Quidditch robe for Halloween (I went as Katie Bell). I bought the maroon and gold material at Walmart, and she used a pattern for making Renaissance cloaks, modified it a bit using pics from the movies, and my Quidditch robe was born. I spray painted old field hockey shin guards, and rollerblading wrist, knee, and elbow pads to make the Quidditch safety equipment. Finally, I made a quaffle by deflating an old soccer ball, punching in three sides, and then spray painting it maroon. I bought an Gryffindor Quidditch patch online and sewed that onto the robe and the costume was done. The whole thing only cost me about 30$, which is a lot less than what pre-made robes go for on the net. I have pics, but no scanner, or I would upload one so you could see how realistic it turned out.

"You haven't got a letter on yours," George observed. "I suppose she thinks you don't forget you name. But we're not stupid- we know we're called Gred and Forge." George- SS "I punched a werewolf in the face." Eclipse ch 15. Bella amuses me greatly. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/695964/ My Twilight and HP fan fics!

Before they made the HP wands I made my own! I was having a HP5 release party at my house and thought it'd be fun if wands were one of the party favors! All I did was buy wooden dowels (not sure what size)for the wand body, wooden peg knobby thingys for the wand handle (look at the olivander's scene in HP1 movie) , dark brown and gold paint, and wood glue. I glued the dowels to the end of the pegs and painted the handle gold and the wood brown. I finished it with Hodge-Podge (puzzle glue works too!) for the shine, and let them dry overnight! They were a big hit with everyone going around waving them and saying "wingardium leviosa" over and over trying to make the drinks levitate! The only drawback is that you CAN NOT bang them on things or you risk them coming apart! Otherwise they stand up very well! ENJOY!!
