Hmmm Hagrid's Rock Cookies really turned out flat as a rock?
Fluer's Kisses turned out to be not so delightful? And just what IS Dragon Snot anyway?  tongue.gif

This is the thread for help and answers to all your cooking questions.

Are there anyway to have pictures of the food on the recipes section of Potter Parties?

Some of the descriptions of procedure don't quite make sense to me, especially the Hogwarts Brie in Puff Pastry one, I am imagining a huge bowl of melted brie floating in the puff pastry crust? or is it supposed to be small, bite-size, tart-like?

Well for that one there is a link to the source website which has a pic here which has the end result, but I see what you mean with them in general.

I'm not sure if photos can be added to DB fields to display in the individual recipe entries, let alone who will do the image hosting (i.e. could we recopy them onto TLC's servers or just link to the original image found?) Many recipes were submitted without images anyway, unfortunately.

At the very least, I really want to have the links clickable inside the individual database entries - this is across the board for the entire how-to section. I'm waiting until more events are approved before nagging the rest of the PP crew for enhancements, though... smile.gif

Nyago, your food looks delicious - now I'm hungry! The Hogwarts Brie is mine...did you find the photo finally? The funniest actually was that everyone ate around the crest & left it by itself on the plate with the rest totally gone...haha...

Thanks!

Yes, I found the photo, not what I had in mind before, but it made more sense when I re-read the instructions. laugh.gif

What did you do you with the rest of the brie? Melt it into a fondue? If I was there at the party the brie would be gone right after it was brought out, and I would be hiding in a corner savoring it. :couch:

May I suggest that, you write on those recipe pages, specifically, that photos could be found by clicking on the Source link. Then people who want to see the photo would know to look at the Source.

Ohhhh, I need help. I need some ideas for VERY simple food that I can have for the party I'm planning...we'll have pumpkin pasties (Costco mini-tart shells with store-bought pumpkin pie filling) but I need something like chips or pretzels than can be made to seem "magical." Ideas?

Thanks so much!

Some ideas for Zinnia_Evans ~

Ginger Newts would be pretty easy to make (just gingerbread man cookies cut out like slamanders).

Teddy Grahms, but re-name them "Ron's Teddybears" and mix some gummy spiders in with them.

Pretzel wands - which might even be fun to make with fondue-ish chocolate or cheese, frosting and sprinkles (but you have to lable the the chocolate jimmies "nargle droppings" and the rainbow sprinkels "faerie eggs" and the coloured sugar "crystal fragments", the cheese dip = Kneisle gravy, the melted choc. = dragon drippings,  and so forth)

Potato Chips could be Crispy Sliced Garden Gnomes.
And cleverly re-name the dips, too.  A white one could be Stewed Mooncalf, a salsa/red lumpy one could be chopped venomous tentacula with chopped nettles or something.
There are some commercially made veggie chips (sweet potatoes, Turnips, beets and other colourful veggies), perhaps you could mix some of those red and orange slices in with the regular potato chips so that it looks exotic.

You could make a Potions area where they build their own drinks.  Have Kool-Aid powder in cool "magical" looking tiny jars (do a little measuring before hand so you can figure out how much sugar to add if you don't use the pre-sweetened).  Again name the red ones "something's blood" and the green ones "bubotuber powder" and the orange ones "ground Honking Daffodil", etc.  That way they can mix a spoon of this and a scoop of that, add "Elixer of Life" (water) and stir counter-clockwise until...

My soon to be 8 year old daughter wants a Harry Potter birthday. While my soon to be 10 year old son wants a Computer Game birthday. As their birthdays are 2 days and 2 years apart, this proves to be a challenge every year.

I was thinking of doing the Hogwarts Crest on a half sheet cake. But I would need a GOOD version to do, and the ability to blow it up and print it out. Probably onto 2 sheets of paper, as that will about fill the top of the cake.

I've been doing cake decorating for decades, and since my mom turned over her supplies to me (officially retiring from the family birthday party cake making) I do about 8 to 10 theme cakes a year. Man, I need to get a life, lol.

So the ability is there, if I can get some suggestions as to where I can get the artwork. I don't want to pay for it, but I don't want to be 'stealing' it either. If you know what I mean.

Oh, I've decided that my son's cake will be a relief design of a computer monitor...with pac man on the screen smile.gif He has never played pac man in his life, but frogger was just too much work, lol.

Those are all excellent ideas! You can also look on the PotterParties.com recipes section for anything marked a 1 rating.  Unfortunately they're not searchable by rating, so you have to find the 1s in the long list of recipes, but there are a ton of simple ideas I posted there...like bat wings = frozen BBQ chicken wings, etc.  Make your own Potion is always fun, and can be as elaborate or simple as the time you have to put into it.   Just labeling some plastic jars or cups with wizardy ingredient names is probably enough for kids.

Have fun!

Thanks!
