Hello everyone, newbie or otherwise!!!

welcome.gif to the Leaky Lounge!!

So you are a new here...a little lost, a little shy, don't know what to do or where to go, just through the brick wall?

This thread is for you!

First check out our map of the whole Leaky Lounge - if the Lounge is feeling like it's so huge you can't navigate, look at all the descriptions of the forum to get an idea of where you'd like to go.

How to start your adventure?

First things first.
-Read the rules so you won't be modded or you won't have your posts removed or your thread won't be closed!!! Bear in mind that rules can change from time to time so even if you've already read it, return to this page once in a while!!!

-In doubt how to post, quote, put a picture in your post, signature or have an avatar? How to change the font of your post? How to change that big picture so it's not too big? Go to our FAQ page and you'll find an easy step-by-step description of all the problems mentioned above and much more!!!

-Another helpful place - Knockturn Alley. Post there if you have a forum-related problem, bug, or if you need help finding the place for a thread idea.

-If you are looking for an avatar or trying to make an avatar, please go and see the Nerd Corner forum.

-It's always good to be well-informed and the easiest way is to use the search function - just click on the button situated in the up right hand corner of each Leaky page (or folow the link given here) and fill in the search boxes!

-Finally...if you want to post your ideas and suggestions that would improve forum go to our famous Room of Requirement.
Do you want to make freinds here?

Just follow these tips
:
    * Never ever offend anybody here, mods included. Would you like to be offended yourself? Be nice! This is our first and the most important rule!!!
    * Visit many different forums and read some posts before writing something yourself.
    * Think while posting. People do notice clever posters and contact them more often!
    * Join one of our Reading Groups if there are places - less posters in a Group mean that they tend to know each other better and it's easier to befriend somebody!
    * Join one of our live chats or maybe even...
    * Try to find an original topic and write an essay to be published in the Scribbulus section! But first read some essays that have been already published!!!
    * Pay attention to the announcements on your right - you can find there the most visited threads, the dates of next chats and some forum news as well!
If you have any problem with this site, another poster/post/thread or anything at all, please, contact somebody from our friendly staff, it's always the best option possible - we are here to help you!!!

Have a great Leaky experience!!!

It is supposed to be an open thread - you are able to post here and ask questions - a moderator will post the answers after some time. Before you ask, however, make sure that your question wasn't answered by the links and tips posted above - if it is the case, there will be no answer at all or a moderator will only post a link, directing you to the suitable thread.

First things first: Tsukiwa I merged your two posts because posting in this way it is against the rules - don't post two successive messages, one after the other, they will be considered spam.

How to join the live chat? Just click on IPB Image this picture and if the chat is open, you will be transmitted to it.

And, sorry, but i can't click the picture, i don't know why.

If you're sick of me, just tell me ^_^U

Hi, Tsukiwa, and welcome.gif .

"Spam" is a slang word and it essentially means junk. Spam posts don't add anything to a discussion--they're junk. Sometimes people will make posts with just a few words or a cute smilie so that their post count increases. We try to discourage this on Leaky. No one wants to read through 5 pages of one-word posts or posts with just smilies.

The picture you click on to get to the live chats is on the right side of the screen just under the words "Reading Groups!"

Hope that helps. smile.gif

Hi - I'm not THAT new, I joined in April or somewhere but I had a period where I didn't come on here very often blah blah you don't need to know but my question is

Over people's avatars and under their names is like a THING - in some cases it's a job - in my case it's Just Through The Brick Wall ( I assume that means I'm new ) - just wondering is there a number of posts you have to write before this changes? And do you choose what it is or do the mods? Some of them are really funny.... thanks for your help!

Hi Abbey,
A very good question.
The Leaky Lounge staff occasionally change the titles that appear under your names in your posts.
"Just Through The Brick Wall " means that you are a newbie, that's true.
Your title will change with the count of your posts - for the first changing you need more than 50 posts, then 100 and so on but the amount is not as important as the quality. The titles are made up by our staff and you can't choose your title, it is given automatically.

I hope it helps

I guess I'm too old for this...

I understand the clues for your Halloween searches, but I don't know how to search the forums. Do I have to read every post in every forum? Who has time to do that? I am not adept at forum works, so maybe somebody can tell me how one searched for answers to clues once we know what to serach for.

For example, I know one is "unfogging the future" forum, but I can't find it! Also, I know one trick or treat thing is in something about Quidditch, but how does a person locate it?

Or are these games only for people who use the forums so often that they just know where all the discussions are?

Thanks for any help.

Holly

Holly Phoenix, you are definitely not too old (what is age compared to magic?) but you do need some practice. Be patient, ask and you will learn in no time!

Look at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, Holly Phoenix, and you will find a pull-down menu with the names of all the forums here. Click on the blue arrow sign. Now, it's enough to highlight the right forum name with your mouse and click "go" button and you will be taken there.

Trick and treat is not about Quidditch, it's about looking for "portkeys" - special images- that take you to a picture or a game. They are usually attached to some posts on the forums.

Searching the forums is easy - go here, fill in the boxes carefully and you'll be presented with your search results.

If you still have some problems, feel free to pm me or any of our moderators, we are here to help!!!
