Halloween is a perfect time of year to dig out the Harry Potter costumes you normally wear at conventions... or to make some more! So, are you dressing up as a Hogwarts student this year? Or perhaps as Hedwig? Are you putting a scar on your newborn's forehead so he'll look like baby Harry?

I'd love to hear what good HP costuming ideas you all have for this year... or the ones you've had in passed years! And of course, if you have questions or need advice on your costume, that would be the right place to ask them!!

I'm probably not doing anything this Halloween, but I do have Ravenclaw robes that need redoing. Maybe I'll try to find the time to do that before Halloween and put them on in my office (which is in my house, which means no one will see me tongue.gif) just for fun!

I'm going as Luna Lovegood this year. I've already made the Ravenclaw robes and I'm getting materials for my wand and radish earings today!

I was planning on going as Mrs. Weasley, but time is ticking away and I haven't had time to start my sweater yet. If that falls through, I'll be going as Tonks. I already have an awesome pair of black leather jeans I found at my local thrift store, so I think a pink wig and a shirt with Weird Sisters stencilled on it will do the trick. No idea how my kids will feel about trick-or-treating with me dressed like Tonks, though my dressing up has never bothered them before!

I really want to be Fleur but I don't think I can find that hat if I wanted too. Plus the butterflies swaying from fishing line around me might make me look like I am farting odd things if I start running. Hehe I am soo glad I amuse myself, ( and futureweasley).

I've been told by my best friend that Snape is EVILLL. Who am I to argue?

I did found a hat form for Fleur's Beaubâtons hat here a while back. As for the butterflies, I guess you can dispense with them biggrin.gif

And for the 3rd year in a row, *drum roll please* my oldest son wants to be Harry Potter again! This is the best robe I've ever purchased (crafters don't throw anything at me please)! lol.gif

I only wish my younger son would wear his a 2nd year! Our very own Witchy Helper - Ofenjen - made the most awesome Hedwig costume!! She rocks my sox!

And to top off these wonderful costumes both boys placed 1st and 3rd in the danradcliffe.com Monster Bash Costume Contest!! *sniff* So proud!! How the heck am I supposed to top that!?

Oh my, what gorgeous children you have, hpmommy! ;)

I still think having the boys dressed as Harry & the Potters would be hilarious...

*sings* Draco Malfoy, what's your problem?

Usually I can badger my mom into making me a costume (they always turn out so good) but this year she absolutely won't. My talent for sewing is dismal and it would take me till Christmas to make my own costume (even then it would probably fall apart) so I was thinking of buying a Dementor costume or something else store bought. Yeah it's unoriginal but I don't have the time or the money to be choosy. sad.gif

If that may comfort you ignoredprophetofdoom, I can barely sew a straight line. However, I did buy myself a pattern and attempted to make my own robe using a tutorial I found on the net. Having a Harry Potter project motivated me a lot, I can say that! I barely finished my robes on time for Lumos, and even though I made little mistakes (like sewing my hood the wrong way!), they were more due to the fact that I was in a hurry to finish (I was still sewing at 9 a.m., a mere 4 hours before I left for Vegas). Sewing robes isn't particularly difficult, and since they are far from being fitted clothes, it doesn't matter so much if everything is not perfect.

If I were you, I'd give it a shot. Maybe you can try to make them with your mother, so she can show you the basics? Be sure to post pictures of your work in progress, and to send us pics of the finished robes if you decide to do that!
