The release of the PS/SS film was one of the most hotly awaited films of all time. To date it has grossed nearly $970,000,000 and sits at 4th place in the all time top grossing movie chart.

But did the movie match the book in your expectations?

Jo Rowling has a talent for creating imagery that most authors can only dream about. She creates characters we love and hate, places where we long to visit and animals we would love to see, (or not in the case of Fluffy!!)

Do our heroic trio match the Harry, Ron and Hermione in your head when you read the book?

Was this how you imagined the denouement when Harry comes face to face with "The Man With Two Faces" in chapter 17?

Tell us what you think! Can a movie ever match up to the book? When you read this book, do you now see the movie images in your imagination, or still your own?

It was very good, but there were a few things I (still) - rather nowadays - see differently

I was introduced to the world of Harry Potter through the first movie. Hence, most of my views on the world are originally defined by the movie. However, after that first introduction I have read the book a scaring amount of times, whereas I have seen the film comparatively fewer times. (Although not few... tongue.gif ) Still, the movie is portraying the book, not the other way around, so the differencies are ways in which the movie is different.

After buying the film and having seen it several times there are differences that becomes clear, I think. Most especially:
* Hermione is way too pretty. (Emma is beautiful, and Hermione is supposed to be plain.)
* Harry is NOT green eyed, black-haired, untidy haired.
True Ron isn't tall and freckly, but I react less to that.

Also, I am not a fan of Radcliffe's portrayal of Harry in the first few movies, this one included. Although this is something that came clear to me on several re-seeings, not originally.

The biggest problem I had with the movie is that at Hogwarts they did not seem to wear robes one pictures for dressing up trick or treating. It really bothered me then but I'm getting used to it. Hogwarts and the Dursley house was really good though. All the sets were.

I can not honestly remember what I saw the characters like when I read it. I don't think I see people normally, just dots and names.

How could I forget! doh.gif This generally annoys the living daylight out of me!

These kids are eager to be included in the wizarding world and use muggle clothes only because they have to... but not in the movies... *sigh*

i had read the first 3 books before PS came out so i had a pretty clear image of everything in my mind before i watched the movie. not to mention that i wasnt online that much at that time so apart from a few pictures of the kids i hadnt seen any images at all.
i was watching the movie with my friends (all of them big HP fans) and i remember that when Hogwart first appeard on the screen we were all like WOW!!!!... it was so surreal to see exactly what you imagined on the big screen...and the Great Hall...wonderful! clap.gif

as for the actors...i dont see any of them while im reading the books, they dont look like any of my characters but thats ok. i still think they all do an amazing job, especially the adult actors. smile.gif

My problem with the first movie was that they seemed to try to put a small slice of everything from the books, and in it they lost some of the depth of those slices, and was more disjointed than it should have been. I was also very disappointed with what they did with the Devil's Snare (though without the Potions, Hermione did need her chance to shine).

On the other hand, I thought the casting was excellent. When I heard that Maggie Smith was going to be Professor McGonagall, it seemed perfect. Richard Harris had his finger on Dumbledore (alas, has), Alan Rickman is a great Snape.

For the trio...no, they aren't quite the trio from the book, but I think they work in the stories. Ron got his chance to shine, and was convincing as "I'm going to be a knight".

Oh, and Tom Felton has been perfect as the twitchy little ferret.

I'd still like, someday, after Deathly Hallows has been released on DVD and nicely settled, someone to do a miniseries of the books where the whole book could be included, where they don't have to worry about fitting it into two hours and thirty minutes.

I voted for acceptable. It has some great imagery, and it was done for a particular audience I think. In general the movies bother me as I tend to nitpick everything in them that is 'wrong'.

I worked at a bookstore when the first book came out, but I didn't bother reading it because I didn't like being one of those people who read something just because everyone else did. I can't stand Oprah's book club either.
I saw the movie first. When I see the main characters, I see Dan and Rupert and Emma. The same for the castle and the outside of the Dursley's home. However, I see all the events transpiring a different way in my head as I read, just because there is so much more to the books (and becomes more evident in book 3 onward) than can be put in the movies. Sometimes I forget that Hermione did not do the potions logic puzzle in the movie because I can see it so clearly in my head. And it took me several readings to realize that Hermione was supposed to be plain or even ugly, because Emma Watson is not exactly an eyesore even in the first movie.
While I love the first movie, I will always like the Potter books better. wizard.gif

I came into the Harry Potter realm just after HBP was released and I had already seen the movies beforehand so I don't have a clear image of the book characters at all. I don't take the movies too seriously so when things change I don't get upset. It's ony a movie after all. But I think that the movie version of PS/SS was the closest to the books plot-line wise (or as close as it's possible). I love the imagery in the movie and they did the Hogwarts fantastic. And maybe in 20 years they can do a remake of all the movies. thumbup.gif

I voted for acceptable. I remember I dragged my mum to the cinema to watch it, but it was Daniel Radcliffe who put me off because his accent was TOO POSH!!! When he said 'I'm a what?' in his little posh accent I just couldn't stand it - I never imagined Harry talking like that! But he's a lot better now though smile.gif
Then again, I never had the urge to watch the rest until recently - I only watched CoS because I was bored and there was nothing else on TV, but now I really want to watch PoA and GoF so I can watch OotP because that looks reeeally good.
