Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was the book that introduced a wide array of magnificent characters.
Based only on Philosopher’s Stone, which character is your favorite and which is your least favorite? Why? -------------------- |

One needs to define what makes a character a "favorite" -- for me it is a character that attracts me in some way, esposing values I espose or overcoming problems I may have struggled with. So I voted for Hermione. I have always been a bit of a brain thoughout life and friendships are few but cherished.

This is really tough! JKR's amazing characters are what made me a fan and I like so many of them. Neville is really special in this book and Dumbledore and McGonagall are big favorites, too. Snape is so perfect as the red herring in this book. But my vote went to Hermione. I love the combination of annoying and endearing qualities she has. And I guess I just felt so much empathy for her being not well liked and crying in the girls' bathroom. Lucky for her it was Harry and Ron that came in. Moaning Myrtle got a basilisk!
My least favorite character is Peeves. Completely annoying and completely unnecessary to the book. --------------------  Finite incantatem! |

For me it all starts with the boy who lived. There is really no other option than Harry as my favorite character, for without him, there would be no story to tell.
My vote for least favorite in this book would be Vernon, who did his very best to make sure that Harry did not get his Hogwarts acceptance letter.

As much as I want to say Harry, because of course this is his first outing, I would have to say that my favourite character is Hagrid. I think this is because he is the first person from the WW to have a big role in Harry's life - it was Hagrid that brought him toi the Dursleys on the flying motorbike in his dreams, it is Hagrid who starts to howl and cry as he has to leave Harry with DD at the Dursleys, it is Hagrid that comes to get Harry on his birthday, it is Hagrid who tells Harry about his parents and "You're a wizard, Harry". He also takes him into the WW and helps him out - with his school stuff, getting to school, during the term, his Xmas present was a wooden flute which Harry used to get past Fluffy, his little hints and slips that give the Trio much needed clues to get to the PS/SS
As for worst - has to be Vernon, mainly because in the first 3 chapters we only ever hear of the abuse and hate shown towards Harry by Vernon - which he actively encourages Dudley to copy....also it is not until the letters start arriving that we actually hear Vernon address Harry directly and with his name, before he was talked about, or at, but never to...also this shows the abuse that Vernon is didshing out to Harry and Dudley - just in different ways. Harry is maltreated and denied things, whereas Dudley is abused because he gets whatever he wants and never hears the word 'no'. -------------------- *My name is Jean Valjean! * And I'm Javert. My favourite character is Snape because he is so deliciously evil, my least favourite character is Petunia because Harry is her blood nephew and her sisters son and should treat him accordingly, not like he is a piece of dog muck on her shoe

My favourite character from PS has to be Dumbledore!
My least favourite would be Dudley! He contributes a lot to Harry's misery at Privet Drive. And the pig's tail - classic -------------------- "Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!"

My favourite character from the start has always been Dumbledore.
 My least favourite character is Vernon. I just... dislike him. He is nasty, a coward but acts like a big guy, and it's disgusting how he pulls out his moustaches when he's angry. x_x (though kind of funny, I admit.) -------------------- # opaline.
