In PS/SS there are two occassions that I've noticed where Harry is described as having a sensation described as the 'hairs on the back of Harry's neck prickled'.
What is the connection between these two places? Does Harry have some sort of 'Spidey-sense'? If so, what is it sensing? I've got my own theory on this (based on an added piece of info from a subsequent book), but I'd like to hear what people think. Ok, this might be a stretch but I am going to go for it anyways. Ollivander's is like a library in a sense in that Ollivander is a store of knowledge. He can remember every wand he has ever sold and everyone who has bought a wand. He knows which wand core combinations will work best with which wood. Although he says the wand chooses the wizard, he does seem to know what combinations to try. He can be linked to the restricted section in that he is the one of the first people to tell Harry about Voldemort. Not only that, but his account of Voldemort is slightly different than the picture Hagrid painted for Harry. Which then leads us to the inevitable question-does Ollivander know more than he is letting on? Enough stretching. I wonder how much of his neck hair prickling is instinctual and how much of it is related to his scar prickling. -------------------- Prophecy 2007

When Harry first enters the shop I always thougt that it was a mixture of feelings that made him feel that
The wand is kept as the last thing to buy, and I'm sure Harry was very looking forward to buying one, it's the most special thing from his list. The shop was old and dusty, and also quiet. Imagine going from a shopping street with all it's noise into an old shop that's completely quiet and has the item you've been waiting for the most. Also, so many magical items combined in one place are bound to send out some sort of "vibe" which Harry picks up on. Now, if I was in his place, I think I'd get the thingly sensation just from entering the shop with the knowledge I'm about to buy a wand to perform magic with. But that's just me -------------------- "That's the second time we've saved your life tonight you two faced b------!!"

I think it is to do with Harry's ability to sense powerful magic, because when he enters it is described as:
QUOTE "For some reason the back of his neck prickled. the very dust and silence in here seemed to tingle with some secret magic" I think that it shows that Harry does have an intuitive ability to sense magic, like DD can - he just isn't as developed as DD. I think this will help him later in the final book -------------------- *My name is Jean Valjean! * And I'm Javert. Do not forget me 24601! As for when he feels it in the library...it could be because of all the dark magic secrets hidden in those books, and he senses that somehow, or the fact he is in the restricted section and he simply felt like he shouldn't be there! -------------------- ![]() Thank you very much to Hagiographer13 for the lovely sig avatar and theonlysong for the amazing avatar! |

QUOTE Ollivander is a Death Eater we are not sure of that! even if he sounds strange in the first book, one can not say by reading it that ollivanders is a death eater, and we can't say at the moment. but it would make sense that harry's neck prickle when he is in presence of dark magic. it would also make that harry feels when there is a lot of magic surrounding him. (he is young, i doubt he could feel but a lot of magic) -------------------- 2% teens have NEVER tried smoking. I am proud to be one of them. I think this will help him later in the final book I agree too and that's why he breaks things so easily when he's testing wands in the shop. He has big magical powers that he hasn't learned to control yet. In PoA, the "cupboard door sprang magically open as he reached it." And anyway, imagine being in Harry's shoes that day; he's had a lot of new impressions in a very short time; he's probably exhausted! Both horcrux clues!
Probably.. When Harry sees a place that has ancient and/or a large amount of magic or knowledge he has never known about, his neck hair prickles a bit because it frightens him that there is so much magic and knowledge in the world that he doesn't know and may never know about. It really frightens me. -------------------- "It was that kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, and you felt like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road." -Holden Caulfield
