There has been a theory put forth that the Harry Potter books can be paired. The first with the last, the second with the sixth, the third with the fifth, and the fourth as the pivotal story.

If we assume there will be parallels between the first and the last book, what in the first story are we likely to find mirrored in the last? What's the template? The overriding theme?

Is that theory outlined in a Scribbulus essay? If so can you provide a link? Or give more details on the pairing theory? conf.gif

Why, the Philosopher's Stone, of course! biggrin.gif

You had to know I was going to say that, davidenglish. lol.gif And I know you don't agree in the slightest.

I'm guessing that the Mirror of Erised is going to be used again. I don't think that its gone completely, and it was used once as a hiding place, maybe its gonna be used again for some other purpose.

I like the idea of the return of the Mirror of Erised, but I think its more likely that Sirus's mirror will make a return, Has Jo said that before? I think so. That would be a kind of parallel. It would funny though if Harry had been carrying a broken mirror in the bottom of his trunk all year.

Lilly's love protected Harry when he confronted Voldemort in the end. I think some form of love will also protect him in the final confrontation, but not in the same way.

Also he philosopher's stone was destroyed. I don't think it will reappear.

I don't think that book 7 will mirror (pardon the pun) book 1 because there is so much that has happened between them that needs expalining and also Jo said that book 1 was intended to be light, book 7 is not going to be light! (you can find the quote in the links)

I don't think the relationship between book 1 and 7 is necessarily a reflection (oh the puns!) of the mood of the books but I do think certain things will return or parallel. Book two and six are hugely related even though they are far apart. The diary returns in 6, Ginny's role in both are most prominent. I definintly think we're going to find out so much in 7 about the night the Potter's died.

Well, I certainly think Snape will be the Man With Two Faces. We've certainly known he's been living a double life; it will only be in Book 7 that Harry find out both sides of this Janus figure.
