I am thrilled to see Elisabeth Sladen back on TV. I grew up with her being Doctor Who's Companion (Tom Baker).
Invasion of the Bane was broadcast on New Years Day, in a 1 hour episode.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
What do people think of the new series?
Did you like the first episode?
What characters did you like?
Do you hope to see more of K-9?
Is this a new series for you, or did you watch Elisabeth Sladen as a Doctor Who fan?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Please people use spoilers so those who have not seen the episodes do not have the surprised ruined.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Also, I would like people to talk about their memories of Elizabeth Sladen as a Doctor Who Companion.
How much of Doctor Who did you see with her in it?
Was she your favorite Companion?
How did you feel when the Doctor just left her?
How many episodes that featured Elizabeth Sladen did you see?
What were your favorite Elizabeth Sladen episodes and full-Storylines of Doctor Who?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Cheers,
Helyx
I quite liked the first episode, but I will talk more about it later. I am curious to what other people thought of it.

The new spinoff isn't in Australia yet, but I am looking forward to it. Sarah Jane was always one of my favourite companions - I didn't grow up with her as a companion, my children did. So no, this won't be a new series for me, just a continuation (or off-shoot) of an old one, and yes, I would love to see more of K-9.

I think after seeing the first two episodes that make up the first full story of the new series of the Sarah Jane Adventures that it warrants it's own discussion thread. Firstly an introduction to the story for those who are unfamiliar with the premise. The Sarah Jane Adventures is a television Serial created by Doctor Who show controller Russell T Davies which follows the adventures of former companion of The Doctor during his third and fourth incarnations, Sarah Jane Smith as played by Elisabeth Sladen. Sarah Jane had recently re established contact with the Doctor during his tenth incarnation in the 2006 episode of Doctor Who 'School Reunion'. Series one finds her living on Bannerman road in Ealing London, where during an investigation into a unusual pop drink called Bubble Shock she finds they have created a 12 year old boy as a lab rat to improve the alien qualitys of the drink. After foiling the plans of the 'Bane' she adopts the boy and names him Luke (thats the kid you would have seen in the Series 4 finale of Doctor Who) Luke's best freinds also take part in the adventures, they are Maria Jackson who lives across the road from Sarah Jane and tries to befriend her before Luke was introduced, and Clyde Langer a streetwise kid with a good heart. Maria leaves for America in the first story of Series 2, her place will be taken by the new residents of her house, the Chandras and a 15 year old girl called Rani.
My thoughts on Story 1 of Series 2 The Last Sontaran
I thought this was a fantastic opener to the series. The sontaran wasn't a character we had seen in the Doctor Who two parter but his story was strongly linked to the events of the episode and that was blatently referenced. It is a huge shame that Yasmin Paige has to leave the show but, like Emma Watson, her studies come first and I hope the actress has a great career ahead of her, who knows maybe in a few years time the Blue box might just come calling for Maria. Last years Series openers the pilot Invasion of the Bane and the first story proper 'Revenge of the Slitheen' didn't instill much confidence in Series 1 but episodes like Eye of the Gorgon and Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane stand up really well in the over all Who folklore and every who fan of all ages would enjoy those stories, even Warriors of Kudlack, despite its kid premise of War games had some very mature messages in it that were by no means forced down our throats. Thankfully The Last Sontaran has taken on board the lessons learned by these stand out episodes and turned into a story that even a (questionably) more mature Doctor Who fan like myself could enjoy. Superb opener and I look forward to seeing what else is coming up in this fantastic series.

QUOTE(nimbus xl @ Sep 30 2008, 05:08 PM) It is a huge shame that Yasmin Paige has to leave the show but, like Emma Watson, her studies come first and I hope the actress has a great career ahead of her, who knows maybe in a few years time the Blue box might just come calling for Maria. You can call me a conspiracy theorist but I wonder if Maria will be back, or the Sontaran in the last episode, or their dispatch to America turns out to be part of some alien conspiracy. Yasmin Paige clearly was around to do one full episode so she will have done some filming, and that could easily be extended to a small part in a further episode, and still leave time for education. It is just that I can see Sarah Jane having the same tendency as Doctor Who for bringing people back, in addition to recycling monsters to a certain extent.

Yay, I was just looking for somewhere to talk about the new eps! Ok, so I guess I'm not alone in seeing both of the 2 parts of the Last Sontaran, then? I was totally not sure if they both aired on the BBC thingie, but I ended up getting both parts in my usual way, which was sort of surprising (and nice!) because I completely thought that part 2 would be airing next week. Anyways, the episode... I loved it. Sad that Maria's going off the show, though, but I'm ok with that, since the other characters are great as well (Clyde... there is no end to how much I love him...) ... and I also can completely see a TARDIS in her future. She would be such a pro. Sontarans!! LOVED the tie-in with the Doctor Who episode, and even that they included little things like the hand print doors again (Maria on that = uber clever... or secretly a fan of Doctor Who ). I was happy about Crissie Jackson, this episode, I felt like all of the Jacksons got a really good send off, and when she told Sarah Jane that she could remember it all, I was like THANK GOD, because before (and I actually thought they'd killed her for a second... even though it's a kids show... but I still thought they could...)I was like 'seriously? What is with RTD's 'not having people remember that they saved the world' thing' hehe. Excited to see who the new girl (Rani) is and what she's like and all next episode.
And I can see the the Sontaran maybe coming back kind of like the Slitheen did in the end of series 1... and definitely Maria as well, I think. I wonder if she'll be back full-time again if they do a series 3?

Part one of the latest story "The Day of The Clown." screened on the CBBC channel on Monday. My word, I always said this show rival's, matches and sometimes beats Torchwood for maturity, but this time it's rivaling Torchwood for out right creepiness. The episode has a feel of the Torchwood story 'From out of The Rain.' with a bit of 'Small Worlds' thrown in for good measure. This is freaky and fantastic. I've never had much problems with clowns, (I remember 'Dumbo' from when I was little) but I might look at them much different now. He seems to be in league with the Daughter of Blood from series 3 of Doctor Who. The new girl Rani seems to be very forward and I'm not sure about the parents yet, her mother seems a bit ditzy and her father could do with showing some of that softer interior at school. Anyway the advance screening of part 2 is next Monday and the army of the Daughter of Blood are well on the march.
