We all know there are 29 knuts to a sickle, and seventeen sickles to a galleon. But how much are they all worth? How many dollars to a knut, a sickle, or a galleon?

Any Ideas?

When I think of it, its like a new adventure waiting to be explored. Everything that humankind discovers or tries to figure out leaves nothing for the IMAGINATION because there are FACTS to prove you right or wrong. But the afterlife makes you wonder: what next?

lmao! iknow! well, i was trying to figure it out. Reading Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, there is a price sticker on the back. it says 3.99, or 14 sickles 3 knuts, so i was sitting there tyring to figure it out. (ok, 27 knuts to a sickle, so if a sickle was a dollar it'd be like 100 knuts, but its 27 knuts, so minus one galleon, and then you'd divide by 3.99...) lol.
Well, there used to be this website that had a money converter, and for a short time it converted money into knuts sickles & galleons, but they don't have that anymore, so i never got a chance to look at it =[

I think that people think it's probably a hundred knuts to a dollar because it is the easiest counting amount that can be divided, multiplied, etc. That's the I think, mostly because if it was any other amount I would be like, "for get it, I'll just go to Gringotts and have the Goblins work it out."

When in need of HP info, don't forget to check the Lexicon . They have a HP currency conversion tool. wizard.gif

1 galleon = $9.92(USD)

100 knuts = $2.01(USD)

How does it logically make sense that a gold coin the size of a hub-cap is only worth 9.92?

Dumbledore uses a night-light. Not because Dumbledore is afraid of the dark, but because the dark is afraid of Dumbledore.

I don't think it is really the size of a hub-cap. I think Mr. Roberts is exaggerating. Besides, if he isn't, it could be foreign wizard money, I don’t think they're the same for each country. I find $9.92 is a reasonable amount. wizard.gif

Pleione: YOU ARE A LIFESAVOR!

things are so much less complicated now =]

ok, so according to the converter:
1 knut= about 2 cents
1 sickle= about58 cents
1 galleon= about $9.92

Just trying out the HP Lexicon conversion tool for Muggle British pounds and this is what I got:

1 knut = a penny
1 sickle = 29p
1 galleon = a fiver or £5

You can also convert wizard money to Leprechaun gold as well:

Guess what you get! ponder.gif

A big fat zero! lol.gif

So £1000 galleons which was Harry's Triwizard Tournament winnings, nee Fred and George would be £5000 0r $9220.
