It seems that many of us are curious as to who was, or is, the most powerful wizard of all time.

So, we decided to make a poll in order to see who, according to Leaky's members, is the most powerful wizard, be he or she a good or bad person.

You can vote for more than one person but, please let us know why you voted for that or those persons, what you think gives them the upper hand... why you think that they are the most powerful wizard of all time.

I couldn't decide, so I voted for two people. First for Dumbledore. Madam Marchbanks said she examined him for his NEWTs and he did things with a wand that she had never seen before. Plus all of his other accomplishments like inventing the Deluminator. And some of the really advanced stuff he did, like bewitching the Deluminator so Ron could get back. The examples of his greatness are too many to list. Then I included Voldemort, because Dumbledore himself said that Riddle was the most gifted student Hogwarts had ever seen. Plus, he did great things. Terrible, yes, but great. This is tempered slightly by the fact that Dumbledore is a fairly humble, self-effacing person.

I voted for Merlin and Dumbledore...

Merlin represents the archetypal mystic sorcerer mentor, the one with knowledge of the primal magical powers.. He still remains a legend...

My other choice is Dumbledore, not only because everyone recognized his magic superiority and accomplicements, but mainly because HE KNEW the boundaries of magic, he knew where to stop.. Not using magic because you can't, that's no use at all. But not using magic because you
can [is different] . . . The real power is when you go right through magic and out the other side.

I know that many condider Voldermort as a choice, but I don't think that LV was more powerful than Dumbledore..Lets' just think...Who is the more powerful wizard - the one who rules a kingdom of darkness, raises mighty armies of followers, and still loses, or the one who laughs at such a waste of energy and leads his side to victory while barely lifting a finger himself? He leads his side to victory just by KNOWLEDGE..

I voted for two people - for me, there is no separating them, they are both as good as each other. The first, and orignal most powerful wizard was Albus Dumbledore. Dumbledore was the only one that Lord Voldemort really feared. Dumbledore did not underestimate the power of love, he defeated Grindelwald - another extremely powerful wizard - and was the best headmaster of Hogwarts.
The other one is, obviously, Harry Potter. He learned a awful lot of magic at Hogwarts, and he also passed on his learning to others. He finally defeated Lord Voldemort.

I voted for Dumbledore. But I hahve to say it was hard to pick just one... Voldemort did some pretty amazing magic and Harry was able to break all of it (But I think Harry's power is more of logic and feeling, he is not a fully trained wizard yet so at this point he's good and will probaly get much better and one of the best wizard ever but let's go back to my vote...wink.gif) so Dumbledore, he knows everything plus he knows everything. He can make difference between what is right and whant is easy, he made mistakes and learn from them. So basicaly, that's why I voted for him

Just out of curiosity what are you basing Harry will be the best wizard ever on? do you mean the most powerful, or the best personality, a misture of both? becuase i dont think he will ever be as powerful as DD or LV,i think the latter was more powerful and DD was more intelligent, good match. But i dont think Harry is exceptionally intelligent or powerful so i cant see him being the best wizard ever, also did Harry actually find ways past LV or did he base the majority of his decisions on the information DD had collected? I think Snape did get it right when he said Harry gets out alot of tight corners through sheer luck and more talented friends, mainly Hermione and Dumbledore.

Voted for Rowena Ravenclaw. Someone who can build a magical school with a changing floor plan and a Room of Requirement deserves the honor.

I'm confused. Did Ravenclaw build the castle by herself? I had thought that all four founders had built it. Did Jo say this in an interview or something? I missed it.
