Really, I have not the slightest idea. We know he eventually got married and had a son, but what else? What occupation might he have chosen? Also, would he and Harry ever possibly talk (a real conversation) again?

Draco's not the best character, but I've been wondering...

Any thoughts are welcome.

Do Malfoys even have jobs?

Was Lucius employed? Sure he was on the Board of Governors for Hogwarts for a time, but was that a paying position in anything more than an honorarium sort of way? Is it like the muggle world where someone of that socio-economic class might just sit on boards for a bunch of corporations (and big corporations do not seem the way of the wizarding world) or is this a family that simply lives off of estate holdings (rents? production (e.g., wine or wool or some such)?) or investment income?

I didn’t know about love, and Harry’s mom did. And she died. And then Harry was all “I am SO living!” and I was all “Oh, you are SO NOT, baby!” and he was all “Oh yeah? Try it!” and I was all “Ok, fine!” and so I did. And then he was all “Yeah, whos what now, bizatch?” and I was all “*deadness*”.

I think one of the things the Malfoys spent a lot of time on (though didn't make any money of, I hope) for the first year or two after the war was outdoing Karkaroff by testifying against Death Eaters in order to keep themselves out of Azkaban. But mostly, I think they have all sorts of investments, especially land.

The Malfoys are landed gentry, so probably got massive accumulated capital gaining interest in Gringotts. Maybe Lucius dabbles in the wizarding stock market, perhaps invests in a fwooper farm in the caribbean or breeds hippogriffs the French dinner table market!

Did Lucius or Narcissa ever work? Somehow I don't think so...
And Draco is not exactly a hard-worker! I think Narcissa would prefer to work in a Muggle fastfood instead of letting her precious son work...

(sorry, english's not my mother tongue)

I think you're probably right about Narcissa as much as I think we can be nearly certain women like Narcissa (meaning both wealth and blood status) don't work.

I agree with the idea that Malfoy probably didn't work, but if he did, what kind of job would it be. He wasn't really an outstanding Hogwarts student, but he was good at influencing people (i.e. Crabbe and Goyal) to get wat he wanted. He was just a people manipulator... so I suppose I could place him as a good politician, but I doubt he would be very welcome in the post-Voldy Ministry. Hmmmm, perhapes he could own a shop like Borgins and Burkes, of course he would just be owner and hire out all the working positions.

Can anyone else think of jobs that would be suitable to Draco's character?

We don't know he was bad either. We know he had an O for Potions, and that's an external exam, Snape's favoritism didn't carry over there. And he must have had at least an E for DADA and Transfiguration, since he took those for 6th year. He did neglect his studies once he got caught up in that cabinet project, but in his first 5 years I think he was at least as good as Harry.

Do we? It seems only Harry and Ron weren't expecting to do potions, but that may mean that Draco and the others were just better informed about the change in staffing. Alternatively, perhaps Draco was expecting Snape still to be teaching potions, got an E, but expected to be able to influence Snape to take him anyway.
