Being a Harry Potter fan means many things. First, there is the love of the books, then the enjoyment of getting together with other fans and discussing and debating the high points of the books.

The memories I've shard with the people in fandom have been amazing. Funfilled trips, long lengthy discussions, learning about technology all have added to the joy of the Harry Potter experience.

Let's discuss what it is to love being a Harry Potter fan. How much you enjoy the experience of talking with others about the books, the long lines waiting to get Deathly Hallows, those golden moments when you shared with others the joy knowing about the boy that lived.

In those grim times when young Harry Potter helped Magical Me find the Chamber of Secrets, I arranged for a special event for the students at Hogwarts. I subsequently had to step down from the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, as I ... had other places I needed to be, but I think in these times of stress and turmoil it would be good to do it again.

So without further ado, I, Gilderoy Lockhart, ... with some assistance from the Leaky Lounge ... present to you the Valentines Day Tribute to Love in ... a series of books that I feature extensively.

Here are some of the stellar things they've planned for you all today:

Have a wonderful time everyone! I'm sure this will be an event to remember! wizard.gif

Shoo Lockhart! Who let you in here? dry.gif

I fell in love with PS/SS, if not from the first page, then when Harry and Ron saved Hermione from the Troll. Growing up as a goody-two-shoes type of girl with two boys as my best friends - I knew I was going to love every minute the Trio spent together.

I fell in love with the author when she started describing things like Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts. I loved the creativity of the gadgets and the objects that Wizards used to imitate Muggle technology. I just couldn't get enough, I wanted to just close my eyes and imagine myself inside of The Three Broomsticks sipping a warm butterbeer with my friends...

I fell in love with the series in the Shrieking Shack at the end of PoA. Wow.

I fell in love with the fandom, when after checking the news on www.the-leaky-cauldron.org one day, it had a brand new look, and the news post explained that a reader of the site sent in a whole new design, without even being on staff. I believe that was John Noe. I thought, wow there is some serious passion about Harry Potter out there! I was completely inspired.

I fell in love with the Reading Groups at the Lily and Stag Inn on the Leaky Lounge during the GoF reading. It was a wonderful sorting with amazing leaders (Moriah, the Guru of Sloth, and Gregory the Smarmy). The discussion was fantastic and every single person was kind and welcoming.

I fell in love with the greater Leaky Lounge when I started as a RG staffer myself and got to see first for the first time- the amount of work and commitment both the members and the staff put into making Leaky a great place to gather with friends. Again, I was inspired.

Thanks for the love everyone! You have all made my life richer, starting with Jo and ending with the fairly new poster in the Hidden Hall who reminded me yesterday that Ron DID practice extra for 6th year Quidditch trials, and so maybe I shouldn't have been so hard on him! wink.gif

Love, love, love.

My love came gradually. I read the first book when I was 20 and I was only in like. It wasn't until just recently that I realized I had a love for Harry Potter. I decided I needed to share my love with others so I came to The Leaky Cauldron and found they had a forum called Leaky Lounge. I joined the forum and instantly fell in love.

One thing I'm not in love with is all this pink. wink.gif

I didn't really fall in love with it all until I started posting regularly on the Lounge. Though I do rember staying up late into the night to finish CoS the first time I read it. I've made some great friends here, and though I don't post as often as I used to, this place will always hold a special place in my heart.

That was the best part of the fan experience, was being around other fans and helping, for a time, to make this place by far the best HP landing strip on the planet.

So I have to admit that I didnt fall in love with HP right at the start. I thought it was a heap of commercial hype. And then I listened to the audio book and I fell in love. As if that wasnt enough, someone snuck a camera into the Potterverse and made the SS/ PS movie. At that moment I became obsessed and the magic's never worn off, in fact I think there's a permanent sticking charm in there somewhere. When I first saw DD I thought someone had picked him right off of the page and put him in the movie because in all the book-to-movie adaptations I've seen, never has anyone looked so exactly like how I'd imagined. When I first saw Hogwarts it was as though I was in the little boat looking up with the others and saying *wow* in hushed tones of awe. And when I first saw the Potions Master I knew there was no hope for me, I was an official HP geek (and proud).

And thankfully I found Leaky, it took me long enough but I found it a whiles before HBP was released. I didnt register at first because I was worried about spoilers. But, Leaky's been my home ever since and the people here are my family. Like Alan Rickman says in Snow Cake, it's the only place where I dont have to explain or justify myself. Because we all love HP. And we can obsess for 50 pages over the meaning of a single word. Or we can talk about bunnies or donuts or music. I love Leaky rolleyes.gif

Moments of love for HP:
-Re-reading the series from start to finish, picking up on the little things I missed before
-Discovering "Pottercast"
-Discovering the forum (and finally joining!)
-the movies
-my (minor) crush on Matt Lewis
-Following Harry on this amazing journey, watching him stumble, celebrating his victories, and finally seeing how life settled for him.

love, love, love

At the start-of-term banquet, Harry had gotten the idea that Professor Snape disliked him. By the end of the first Potions lesson, he knew he'd been wrong. Snape didn't dislike Harry—he hated him.

I didn't love HP when the books first came out, I thought they would be dumb. When the first movie came out, I wanted to know what everyone was talking about, so I found my sister's (unread) books and immediatly fell in love with them. As soon as I finished the first, I went on to the second, then the third. When it came time for me to read GOF, I found that my sister had lost it, so when I found it after the week long break I had taken to find it, it was all that much better. That was the first of the books in the series that I loved by itself, instead of as a whole like the first three. I heart.gif these books! smile.gif
