Have you ever thought about naming your child (or have named your child) after a character in a book? I had a few ideas over the past few years, and I'll share them with you. Please post your own, and TELL US WHY.

-Melanie Rose or Melanie Scarlett
From Gone with the Wind
My all-time favorite book. I found these two characters to be an unstoppable force, and I think it's a beautiful name.

-Juliet Michelle
From Romeo and Juliet
I think this name is very elegant and I absolutely love the story it comes from.

-Atticus Paul
From To Kill a Mockingbird
It may seem like a dorky name to some, but this is one of my all-time favorite novels. I think this name would be perfect to bestow on any boy.

That's all for me. Anyone else?

I love the name Edmund, it crops up in literature quite a bit, but the first place I saw it would be in the Chronicals of Narnia. He is an extremely dislikable character through most of the first book but he gets his act together. I love that he his such a redemable character, everyone messes up and it is nice to know we can be forgiven.

Oh! SnitchWings! I once had a student whose mom named him Atticus after Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird! He was a an extraordinary young man, a good student, active in all sorts of things, aware of world events... an all around amazing kid. What made me smile especially? He was African-American! *smiles from the delightful memory*

btw... no one abbreviated his name nor ever mocked him! Yay!

My husband and I both love the name Scarlett - which is from Gone With the Wind... although she's not the best role model. We don't like it b/c we have any sentimental attachment to the character - we just think it's a really pretty name. My name is Katie - so that would be really from the book if I named her Scarlett Katie or vice versa. We're leaning towards Scarlett Rose, Scarlett Eve, or Scarlett Kate.

I also really like the name Hero - which is from Shakespear. I'd use that for a middle name before a first name though.

I actually really like the name Draco... but would never have the guts to name any future sons that name.

One of my favorite characters of all time - from a trilogy called Mark of the Lion - is named Hadassah - which is pretty.

If I ever have a son I would name him Legolas, after the elf in The Lord of the Rings. I love that name! Also Aragorn and Elrond. Also Icarus and Ozymandias from As The Wind Blows by James Patterson.

If I ever have a daughter I would name her Hermione from HP or Max from As The Wind Blows or the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson.

YES! GIVE IT TO HIM, IT'S OBVIOUS HE DESERVES IT!!

I've got some friends who are such LotR fans that their three sons are named Aragorn, Eomer, and Celeborn.

I am probably going to name my daughter (if ever...) Mary Francis Katherine, after Francie from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Favorite book ever.

I really like the girl name of Jo, from Little Women. It was a favorite growning up. I was the Jo March of my family; very tom-boyish, and stubborn. But I also like it because its the name of my favorite living author, JKR. Now thats a deal. The name Jo just seems like a very stronge name to me, and thats why I love it.

Another name I like from a book is Cecilia. I feel in love with that name a long time ago. I'm sure its been in lots of books, but after reading Atonement I loved it even more.
