I've gone through the poll we had about what reading pattern we wanted and I've listed all the books specifically mentioned from JKR's recommended list with the exception of the Narnia books. It has been commented that they are fairly short books so I thought it might be helpful to gather further opinion on how we read them and I'll put up a separate poll about Narnia shortly.

Many people had requested a Jane Austen book but no one book was requested so I've chosen my particular favourite, Pride & Prejudice.

The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings were both mentioned and, as The Hobbit precedes LoTR, I've included that one rather than the trilogy.

Lyra's Oxford and Once Upon a Time in the North have also been mentioned. They're not on JKR's list but, as LO is a very short book, as OUTN will probably also be fairly short, and they are tied into the trilogy, perhaps we could have a thread about each of those in the HDM discussions.

I voted for 'I Capture the Castle' because I think it's one of the best books ever written!

I voted for "I Capture the Castle" also, because I recently read it, and it is a truly amazing book. biggrin.gif

I wanted to join in the discussion of Northern Lights, but life turned out to be far too busy, and I never managed to read it again (I only read it once, about 5 years ago). sad.gif

I voted for Pride and Prejudice because I have always wanted to read that, only never got round to it! But if it's chosen then I will definitely read it lol.gif

I'm looking forward to the Narnia poll though smile.gif

I chose Pride & Prejudice, mainly coz I'm fairly busy with uni at the moment, and it would be easier for me to participate in discussion of a book I've already read, rather than trying to find time to read a new book. Having said that, I've also read the Hobbit before, so if that ends up being the one chosen, I'll still be fine.

I voted for The Hobbit, because it's one of my favourite books!

I wouldn't mind discussing Pride and Prejudice, as I recently re-read that.

I haven't read any of the others yet, but I have watched the movie of I Capture the Castle, and loved it, and have always been meaning to read it! So I'd also love to discuss that, too.

I voted for the Hobbit because with the LOTR movies I reread the books but I didnt reread The Hobbit & it's ages since I read that.
However I'll be happy if a Jane Austen book gets chosen because I've never read one, I only watch the movies. (I just hope my mom has Pride & Prejudice so as I can borrow it. I know she has a lot of Jane Austen books so hopefully she has that one, too)

I voted for I Capture the Castle--I haven't read it, but JKR's recommendation of it and all the comments from people here who have read it intrigue me. I like juvenile fantasy in general, and I like British children's literature. I love Tolkien, so I'd also enjoy discussing The Hobbit; I think it's more manageable in length and scope for a month's discussion than LOTR.

Of course, I always love to read Jane Austen! The only problem is that my copies are boxed up right now, but I think I could get another paperback without breaking my budget. I think my favourite of her novels is Emma, with Pride and Prejudice a close second.
