Not to take away from Sybil's glory on her first day, but seeing that it's also our birthday (yes, we celebrate birthdays even beyond the veil), Gred and I just had to come celebrate with a bit of advice for all those seeking to be pranksters at the highest WWW standard. First, a few tips, then an example, and finally we'd like for you to tell us about the best prank or joke that you've manage to pull (details and tips appreciated).

First up, tips.

~ Never let more people than are necessary know of your planned prank. In fact, we'd recommend having just one accomplice, so as to keep down any possibility that your victim will discover news of the planned punk, er prank, before you are able to pull it off.

~ Do as much as possible before arriving at the site of the prank. Preparation is key, and you may have to run very quickly so as not to be discovered, hence the planning and prep work.

~ Get photographic evidence. This is key, as you may need/want to claim responsibility for the prank in a few years. Or the next day. Or you may just want to have something to blackmail your victim with, in addition to having already pranked them.

Right you are Fred, very good points. I would just add that one must also practice keeping a straight face, so as not to give away that one is playing a joke. Innocent faces are good to practice as well.

Now, on to the example. This is a tried and tested one that has been working for several years on our own family. Feel free to try it out on yours!

Step 1: Make mashed potatoes.

Step 2: Empty a vanilla ice cream container and put the mashed potatoes in it - yes, of course, put it in the freezer. rolleyes.gif

Step 3: Brew a very dark gravy that is fairly thick, dark enough to pass for chocolate sauce, mind you.

Step 4: Empty a chocolate sauce bottle and fill it with the gravy.

Step 5: Be sure to suggest that the family have ice cream for dessert and watch the show. grin.gif

Yes, now it's time for you to share with us any good pranks you've managed to pull! Consider this thread a sharing of like minds for those of us who like to have a good laugh now and then (or on a daily basis). Feel free to also share any really good jokes you've heard lately, though please put the punchlines in spoiler tags.

Oh, and dont forget:

~ Remember: simplicity is key. The best pranks are still the ones that dont take too much staging to do. Sneaking a canary creme into someones soup for example.

~ Also remember there is a line between a prank and vandalism. We have been known to stick a toe over the line from time to time, but no-one ever suffered permanent damage.

It's kind of a lame prank, but here goes.

When I was 19, I had a job as a library page, putting away the books after they had been returned. We would load the books onto carts, put them in alphabetical order, then wheel the cart out and shelve the books.

On April Fool's Day, I put a cart into reverse order, and told a friend of mine that I had to do something in the back, but that he should take out the next cart to shelve, and I would be out to help him in a few minutes. When I got there, he was trying to re-sort the books so they were in proper alphabetical order, and he gave me a scathing look.

I asked him why he hadn't just taken the books from the end of the row instead of the beginning, and he said he hadn't even thought of that. We both had a nice laugh at his expense.

He got back at me a few weeks later by giving me the creepiest birthday gift ever. tongue.gif

I don't have any pranks to add (you try pulling pranks on the Dursleys and see how far you get!) but I'd like to thank you Gred and Forge for the inspiration you were to Ginny wub.gif her pranks are the best and she learnt it all from watching you guys.

I've done a lot of pranks, but not any I can remember. At our house, April Fools day is a crazy day. I can guarantee you that anytime my mom and I are around each other, we'll be pulling a prank on each other. We love April Fool's day and try to trick each other as much as possible. Last year, my mom woke me up by telling me that a chapter of DH was leaked in the newspapers. I was freaking out so much, because obviously we all would, and I wouldn't calm down until she could actually show me this "article." We laughed so hard about that. I think that's one of the best pranks my mom has pulled. I can't wait to see what she does today!

I remember the usual pranks, salt in the sugar bowl and sugar in the salt shaker.
As kids we would also call a number at random and tell whoever answered it was the telephone company calling to test their line. We asked the person to stand five feet from the phone and whistle (some asked what song?). When they came back on the phone and asked how it was our answer was, "Wonderful, you have just won a year's supply of Hartz Canary Seed".
I know, corny, but we though it was hilarious! biggrin.gif
