QUOTE(CryptMistress @ Apr 17 2008, 11:08 PM) I've never used it myself, but my 15 year old niece swears by it, and uses it for many of her art projects. She also uses PaintPro, but doesn't find it nearly as easy to use, as that one. its much easier to use then the actual software known on windows as paint. paint.net allows you to make extra layers for avatars and sigs. As well as banners. And you can use it easier as from any thing. it is similar to photoshop and it works just like it.

I would just like to mention all my avatars and graphics are made with Paint.net. It seemed a bit overwhelming at first, but I just kept playing around with it and taught myself. I've come a long way since I started making graphics with it
Not only is it great for online use, but I also made four bookmarks of some of the Founding Fathers (James Madison, Gouverneur Morris, John Langdon, and Nicholas Gilman) for a Social Studies project. The project turned out quite nice. After I made a graphic for the front side, I used a parchment paper and added the information on the back. I printed the bookmarks out on photo paper, laminated it, and added a beaded tassel. I earned an A+.
This is what one of the bookmarks looked like: Front and back
I highly recommend Paint.net, it's not as complicated as some of the other programs, but gets the job done-and it's free!

I think CM meant Paint Shop Pro, which is a graphics package that you buy (similar to Photoshop). I've not used it for a long while, but it was pretty good when I last used it

Yes, that's what I meant...my niece corrected me(via phone, no less!)about what it was called. I had Photoshop for awhile, but couldn't figure it out for the life of me! I'm not much of a graphics person...being a writer, the only graphics I use, are words...not much use when dealing with PS, I'm afraid.
But anywho, I downloaded Paint.net earlier, and thought I'd give it a go. Much easier then PS, but I haven't quite gotten the hang of using all the stuff it has yet...or, how to put all the nifty text/fonts into the avvies/siggies. I'll get there eventually! My niece tried explaining in over the phone to me...heh.
So far, here's what I've done...not that great, but a work in progress.
