I listen to a lot of audiobooks as I have a nice, long commute to work. I listened to the Harry Potter series on audiobook (Jim Dale is amazing, by the way).
Well, anyway, I've listened/ am currently listening to two new audiobooks since finishing the HP series, and they BOTH have references to Harry Potter in them. Funny, huh?
(The quotes below are paraphrased from memory)
From Michael Crighton's Next: (narrative, describing a character's appearance) "He wore round, wire rimmed glasses that made him look like an owl, or Harry Potter, or something." From Sophie Kinsella's Undomestic Goddess: (through a series of events, the main character -- a high powered lawyer who knows nothing about cooking or cleaning -- is pretending to be a housekeeper.) Lady of the house: "Well, you must be used to a different model (referring to her ironing board); they all have their own little tricks." Main Character: "Yes... that's right. I'm used to a... uh... Nimbus 2000." Lady of the house: (surprised) "But, isn't that the broom from Harry Potter?" Main Character: (thinking to herself) Damn, I knew I'd heard that somewhere before.
LOL!
So, has anyone else seen other references to Harry Potter in non-Harry Potter literature? I'd be interested to know!

I'm possitive that I've heatd it somewhere, when the main character is a book-worm and enjoys HP. I just can't put my finger on it though.
These example ( mainly the second one ) make me laugh.

I can only add one from a movie:
It is in "Love actually"
Hugh Grant as politican holds a very cheesy christmas speech, remembering all of what great a country England is, " the country of Shakespeare, xxx and Harry Potter." and the audience laughs

To the DL: Dear idiot, I am pleased to inform you, that Severus Snape has quit your service long ago.He has lied to your face for years, protecting with his life that of the person you hate most, Mr. Harry Potter. He proved himself to be far better in Occlumency than you ever were in Legilimency! I wish you a most painful and ordinary death! Yours sincerely, specialis

QUOTE(TheAmy @ Apr 16 2008, 08:49 PM) So, has anyone else seen other references to Harry Potter in non-Harry Potter literature? In Jacqueline Wilson's book "Secrets"(I used to love this book when I was younger) HP is mentioned in passing, One of the main characters' best friends goes to boarding school and she was excited about it because she loved the HP books and she thought it'd be similar.
QUOTE(luna_sparkle @ Apr 18 2008, 11:07 AM) In 'The Da Vinci Code' one of the characters says something like, "The secret lies in the most best-selling book in the world," and another character says, "The secret to the code's in Harry Potter?" "No! The Bible!"

Stephen King wrote a seven book series called The Dark Tower.
Book six is called Wolves of the Calla. In it one of the weapons the Wolves use is similar to a golden snitch and is called the Harry Potter model.
In Wolves of the Calla you don't chase the snitch- the snitch chases you. With typical bloody results, Stephen King style.
