I thought about making this into a poll but there are just too many funny scenes and comments to do it justice.
What made you laugh in the books?

Professory Trelawney throwing crystal balls at the Death Eaters in the last battle shrieking "I have more! ... more for any who want them!" is one of my DH favourites. She had often been seen as a figure of fun and not very useful as a teacher or seer but here she plays her part along with all the other teachers and non-Slytherin pupils to rid the wizarding world of LV and his DEs.

Of course the twins play a huge part in the series' humour, and one of my favourites has to be when they leave Hogwarts in OoTP "Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat" and, of course, they're leaving instruction "Give her hell from us, Peeves". Molly probably gave them hell too but eventually she did realise how good they were at business and was pleased for them.

My favorite funny bit is at the end of Socerer's Stone.

HARRY-I'm going to have a lot of fun with Dudley this summer. He doesn't know I'm not allowed to use magic away from Hogwarts. The scene in GoF when the Weasley's come to get Harry for the quidditch world cup always has me in stitches also. fool.gif

My favorite "funny" was when Harry saw how Prof. Dumbledore was dressed when he went to talk to Tom Riddle about being a wizard. I just can't picture Dumbledore with auburn hair and a purple velvet suit without getting the giggles.

I also like Archie's comments at the Quidditch World Cup about wearing a women's nightgown. Too funny.

Most of the wizarding community's utter failures at muggle dress make me giggle. Something I wish they'd show more of in the movies.

I agree - Harry's "nice suit, sir" comment to Dumbledore about that purple velvet get-up cracks me up every time.

One of my personal favourites is from HBP, when Harry first arrives at the Burrow:

Molly: "What is your dearest ambition?"
Arthur: "To find out how airplanes stay up."

And two of my favourite Fred/George scenes are when Fred asks Angelina to the ball, and they shout at each other from across the common room, then Georges reaction to Molly finding out about Ron becoming a prefect:

Molly: "Oh, Ron, how wonderful! That's everyone in the family!"
George: "What are Fred and I?! Next-door neighbors?!"

I have many more, but I'll restrain myself now before it gets out of hand. smile.gif

"Tell me why, why must we fight?
And why must we kill in the name of what we think is right?
No more! No war! 'Cause how do you know?"

I know this isn't a funny moment, but while reading I laughed (I'm a little mad ;)):

"...accio Hagrid!"

And of course, by looking at my signature, you will see another of my favourite funny moments!

A favourite of mine is the saga of "Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback" in PS/SS -- the first in a long line of instances of Hagrid's personal oddity of finding what everyone else regards as horrific monsters, endearing pets over which he gets soppy "in the worst way". Love the farewell scene:

" 'He's got lots o'rats an' some brandy for the journey,' said Hagrid in a muffled voice. 'An' I've packed his teddy bear in case he gets lonely.'
From inside the crate came ripping noises that sounded to Harry as though teddy was having his head torn off.
'Bye-bye, Norbert!' Hagrid sobbed... 'Mummy will never forget you!' "

Priceless...

This quote had me laughing so hard I was crying! I still laugh at it...

"Bad news, Harry. I've just been to see Professor McGonagall about the Firebolt. She – er got a bit shirty with me. Told me I'd got my priorities wrong. Seemed to think I cared more about winning the Cup than I do about staying alive. Just because I told her I didn't care if it threw you off, as long as you caught the Snitch first."
