In GoF, Dumbledore says that he would never presume to know all of Hogwarts' secrets. hogwarts.gif

The Chamber of Secrets and the Room of Requirement are two hidden places inside Hogwarts. Could there be others? If so, what are they? ponder.gif I like to think there might be a secret passage way down to the merpeople's village in the Black Lake. That way, the headmaster/mistress could pop down to have a chat with the merchieftaness without getting wet or when the lake is frozen over in the winter. squid.gif

i think every founder of hogwarts had left a secret hiding place within hogwarts. chamber of secrets for slytherin. every one else should have left something. on a second thought, who build the room of requirement? i always think that ravenclaw build it, because she's the smartest one. i mean they have to have left something special or useful to let the future pupils from their own house to discover, right?

This thread is better suited for our forum "Magical Theory". Hold on, while we're moving it over.

I agree that the Room of Requirement was made by Ravenclaw as it would probably take some very fancy spellwork! I am not saying that the other house founders did not have the ability to make such a thing, I just believe that Ravenclaw is the most likely house founder to enjoy doing such a thing.

I do wonder what/if Helga and Godric created a 'special' room of their own... does anyone have any other thoughts on this?

I wouldnt be surprised if Gryffindor left some sort of dualing chamber for his future pupils to test their wand-work and bravely avenge their friends wink.gif

Dumbledore uses a night-light. Not because Dumbledore is afraid of the dark, but because the dark is afraid of Dumbledore.

That's a good point actually. The original Room of Requiremt whatever that was may have been designed originally by Rowena Ravenclaw and then Godric Gryffindor may have come along and modified it to suit his own needs.

I like the idea of a passage to the merpeople village in the Black Lake. smile.gif

It would seem that Hogwarts holds many secrets that not even another millenium might discover, yet it also seems that secrecy was rife among the Four Founders from the very inception of Hogwarts, which perhaps was one of the reasons for the split and Slytherin leaving.

definetely. somewhere in the books it mentions staircases that lead somewhere different on fridays, so i wonder if there are doors that open to different rooms once every hundred years or something.

ooo thats a great thought! I think that Helga would have done something like that because of loyalty. We never really know a Hufflepuff to the extent that we do the rest of the houses. What if all the Hufflepuffs knew of a secret door that only opens for the loyal or something like that.. or every 100 years.. i don't know.. but I like it!!
I would like to think Gryiffindor would have had a place to duel. It sounds about right. Or maybe he was the one who built those chambers that the trio went through in PS/SS.

i agree with everyone elses thoughts on the fat that each of the founders created a room and this is how i think it would have gone ( btw i am kind of just spurting off random nonsense today, so sorry if it seems a bit random/stupid/and utter rubbish)

we already know that slytherin did the chamber due to his desire for ony magic blood rule and sneakiness
if we go by that logic then we need to ake in all the personality's of the other founders (as ost of you already have)

i already agree with other's oppinions about Ravenclaw and the whole Room of requirement thing, so i wont go into that,

as for gryffindor, due to his bravery quality, i think he would have created a dueling room, or failing that a room for people like neville smile.gif, people who need a confidence boost, and a bit of training. i dont have a clue how this would have worked (im jus spurting random idea's).
and hufflepuff, i think he would have wanted to prove her loyalty to hogwarts, by creating like a sort of shrine room (for want of a better word) about the origional hogwarts. how the whole idea came about and how proud she was. i think it would have been subtely done, i also like to think that she made the hufflepuff cup and that she creaed a cup for each of the founders (the other three of which are in her shrine room)

It says in CoS (CH:The Writing on the Wall) that G. Gryffindor, S. Slytherin, H. Hufflepuff and R. Ravenclaw built the castle together "far from prying muggle eyes", I'd imagine they chose an area with a natural concentration of magic. For example I think the lake and forest and their inhabitants were probably there first, devloping their colonies at the location for the same reason. So although I think the founders built the basic exterior and interior castle structure, I think the interior expanded, developed and basically continued "breeding" naturally of it's own accord over the years, feeding on the magic in the environment. As 'moony_lupin' said, "It would seem that Hogwarts holds many secrets that not even another millenium might discover", I think this is beacuse it will keep developing.
