My favorite chapter in The Hobbit is the riddle-duel between Gollum and Bilbo. I thought it might be fun to have a riddle thread. Place your own poser here, without the answer. The next person answers the riddle, in spoiler tags, and then posts a riddle of their own. If your riddle hasn't been answered within 24 hours, then go ahead and edit your post with the answer in spoiler tags, and then the thread is open to anyone else who would like to post a riddle.
To start things off:
If you feed me I live, if you give me a drink, I die.
What am I?

QUOTE(kklji @ Jun 22 2008, 11:27 AM) nice one, obviously: a toilet I was created by a man with a kite and a key, I defy logic as poles pull me rather than push, I am? Lightning
What is it that is deaf, dumb and blind and always tells the truth?
ETA: Since the riddle hasn't been answered, the answer is: A mirror

a lie detector?
incorrect, the true answer was an invention of benjamin Frankilin's that goes rather unnoticed: a pendulum
poles refers to magnetic poles

I invite you to try again; and anyone else too And I appreciate your giving the answer to your riddle; good one!
QUOTE(Dreamteam @ Jun 22 2008, 02:45 PM) As we seem to be without the next riddle, here's one:
I'm where yesterday follows today, and tomorrow's in the middle. What am I? A dictionary
Mountains will crumble and temples will fall, and no man can survive its endless call. What is it?
Since no one has answered the riddle correctly; and it has been more than 24 hours, the answer is Time
