In November 2002, just a year after the unparalleled success of the first Potter film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets opened to a warm reception from the fans, and a fantastic box office, remaining in the top 20 all-time hits six years after it opened.

Directed by the same man as the first film, Chris Columbus, the second film stayed very close to the book's plot and introduced many of the characters that have since become fandom-favourites. Chief amongst these must be Lucius Malfoy, due in no small part to the delightfully detailed and deliciously evil way he is portrayed by actor Jason Isaacs. Who is your favourite new character in the second film? Lucious Lucius . . . or someone else?

There were many fantastic scenes adapted from JK Rowling's book, and the film being the longest to date and the book being the second-shortest, there was lots of room to show them off. Which scenes/sequences from the film did you like the best? Dueling club, perhaps?

Here in the TLC Galleries

CoS also afforded the audience a glimpse at more of the teachers and staff at Hogwarts. Did any of the teachers as played in the second film exactly match your interpretation? Was Kenneth Branagh YOUR Lockhart, for example?

Here in the Galleries

A major part of the appeal of the Potter films is their ability to put on-screen the magic that can only be imagined while reading. Which special effects in Chamber of Secrets were really "just like magic?"

Here in the Galleries

Pop the CoS DVD in and watch it again, and tell us how you feel Rowling's second book was adapted for the silver screen. The TLC Galleries even have a full set of the film's screen caps to ponder and study a particular scene or image. type.gif

I loved this movie. I thought this movie, and PS/SS were the closest to the books.

They put good effects on the movie which added to the detail.
Like BeAchL0veEr05 said, i also thought that CoS was close to the book.

The film was still aimed at a younger audience. Unfortunately you have to read the book first before anything that has been left in makes sense. I never got from the movie that Ginny was in love with Harry and that she everything told Tom Riddle everything she knows about Harry. How did she know that Harry found the diary after she tried to get rid of it and why did she steal it back? Instead they included Hermione's crush on Lockhart, which was not important in the movie. Or what's with Hagrid? There were several scenes where he acts suspiciously, but it didn't work for me. The worst was when everybody was cheering for him at the end of the film. That was so cheesy.
Scenes that I liked most:
- the pudding landing on Mrs Mason's head
- Ron and the twins rescuing Harry from Privet Drive
- Harry's detention with Lockhart (the photo with Lockhart posing on a broomstick comes to mind)
- the scene in the Slytherin common room (the actors playing Crabbe and Goyle did a good job there)
- Harry fighting the basilisk, stabbing the diary and telling Ginny to leave the chamber without him, so she wouldn't have to watch him die (I like the look on Ginny's face when she realizes that Harry's wound was indeed fatal after Fawkes healed him)
- Hermione hugging Harry but shaking hands with Ron

I've got the impression that John Williams was not much involved with the score this time. Much of the music has been reused from the first film and I think the music in the quidditch scene come from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

The visual effects have been improved in this film, but I can't help thinking that the CG animators tried to show off what they could do when it comes to Dobby. He acted too much like Jar Jar Binks.

COS was my favorite movie not lying. Although it did not cover everything like any of the movies do, due to the fact that the movies would be 4 hours if they did. It was still able to capture the main focuses from the novel. The special effects were amazing as well. The Cornish Pixies and Basilisk looked very real, which got my attention

I really enjoy this film too; reading this thread makes me want to watch it again.

I had trouble voting for best new character because this film introduces some wonderful ones; Myrtle, Lucius, Arthur....I love them all!

I thought Kenneth Branagh was brilliant as Lockhart; he's hilarious! I was disappointed they didn't invite him back for a scene in OotP. sad.gif

I also really love the scene with Harry, Ginny and Riddle in the chamber; I think they captured the spirit of the book really well. The actor who played Riddle was perfect!

I loved this film, infact its one opf my favourites. It managed to capture Harry Potter as a whole very well.
My favourite new character/s were Dobby and Moaning Myrtle, i think that both were done exceptionally.
For special effects i think my favourites were the Basilisk, Dobby and Fawkes. I thought all 3 were very realistic smile.gif

As for lockhart i just dont think he was handsome enough.

The special effects in this film was also astonishing, it all had a very realistic look! It's hard to choose from them, but I will say; the basilisk, Dobby and quiddich!

Really? I did not like the actor that played her, I mean why on earth did they choose a 30-yearold woman, and not a teen? gah that ruind her whole character to me...
