Throughout the series, Harry, Ron, and Hermione become closer friends as each year gets more dangerous for them. Something I noticed and maybe some other readers might have noticed is the relationship between Harry and Hermione. It seems like it all began in PoA where the two became closer of friends. I'm not saying there was something there but do you believe there was a possbility of something being there?

Hermione being with Ron is kind of a giveaway that she might of been able to pair up with anyone. Although Ron isn't the brightest person, what do you think attracted her to him? His goofiness.

And if so did Harry have it in him as well. I was convinced in the first few books that she would pair up with Harry, but quickly changed my opinion after books 4 and 5, due to the way they acted towards each other.

What are your opinions? biggrin.gif

Hi, guys. bye.gif

I know that discussing couples in the HP books can quickly get contentious--especially when supporters of different "ships" differ on how they interpret the books. So, everyone please bear in mind that our first rule on Leaky is to be nice and treat each other with respect. If this thread gets ugly and people are rude, it will be closed. However, given how wonderful Leaky's members are (especially you guys who frequent the Notable Magical Names forum wink.gif ), I'm sure that won't happen. smile.gif

Happy posting!

Ron's feeling for Hermione started as early as COS. The slug vomiting incident comes to mind. Ron was alway very quick to anger when she was insulted.
In a way I think both Hermione and Harry wanted to hook up with a magical family. Hermione being muggle born and Harry basically an orphan raised by muggle.
I also never felt they clicked that way, they were both extremely stubborn, Hermione believed in Harry but she didn't trust his judgment a lot of times.
They always seemed kinda like siblings to me and as it turned out they are brother and sister in laws.

Ah, Good Obsevations Cooncatbob. It would seem correct that Ron displayed anger at the insults thrown at Hermione. Good points.

And we have to remember that in the early drafts of PS (see jkrowling.com), Harry was raised by Hermione's family, so I am guessing that it was never in JKR plans for them to become a couple. But that's me guessing wildly.

JKR wrote the epilogue before she even finished the first book, so I think we can say with considerable certainty that Harry/Hermione never were a possibility. She worked towards the final pairings for seven books by throwing in hints and clues here and there.

Ron and Hermione was quite obvious from CoS onwards, IMO. I personally never saw the remotest romantic tension between Harry/Hermione, but I know there are people who did and I respect that. I just never saw it.

And the numerous comments JKR made in interviews regarding shipping seem to support my notion. She was always very clear on that it won't be Harry/Hermione.

Quotes from her on that issue can be found on Accio Quote.

These are good points. I mostly think that, most people whom felt Harry/ Hermione was going to happen was more of a want than anything. Perhaps people felt it would seem cute or amusing. But going from the sources that have just been previously stated Ron/Hermione were meant to be earlier on in the series. Thank you for ellaborating this.

It seems many of them were confused by the movies. After DH, I've seen several H/Hr shippers come out and finally confess this.

I never saw Harry/Hermione in the movies either, but apparently they managed to convince some people that Harry and Hermione would be cute together.

I know, I saw Harry and Hermione in the first two books. But I was only 8 so I didn't have much of an insight at that age. I just thought of it as. Oh Harry is cool and Hermione is smart, they should get together. But as I got older and progressed into the series I realized that nothing was going to happen. It's funny how your mind works when you are too young to comprehend what's going on.

I almost felt especially during parts of DH that Harry and Hermione are almost too close to be romantically involved. It's hard to explain but I feel that the friendship they have is so deep and loyal that any kind of sexual attraction would be cheapening it somehow. If I found a friend as good as Hermione I'd never want to risk that connection with romance. But that doesn't mean they don't love each other, I think they have incredible love for one another, it's just at a higher level.
