I say yes to both. Ron and Hermione fell in love the moment they saw each other. Hermione realized from the beginning or maybe 3rd year. Ron realized in 4th year when he saw Hermione in a "different light." I don't think you can really call this love at first sight. Hermione certainly seems drawn to Ron as shown by the way she is so upset by his comment that sent her into the troll bathroom, but I think with Ron once they were friends, that is was just a strong loyalty to his friends, which gradually turned into love.
QUOTE(RonandHermione @ Jul 10 2008, 06:27 PM) About Ginny, remember the poem she wrote Harry in second year? She was desperate to get him to notice her. I may be wrong...what was an overly excited fan may have turned into love. I think Ginny was in love with Harry early on but it started as fan worship in the first book, once she knew who Harry was (she doesn't particularly seem to notice him until then - in the book at least). But I think she was firmly into the early stages of love by the time Harry arrives at the Burrow, probably encouraged by whatever she was able to get out of Ron and his brothers about what Harry had been up to in the previous year. I don't think Harry was seriously attracted to Ginny until she stopped being shy around him, and this probably started from their summer together at the start of HBP.

If this is in the wrong place feel free to move it. how could it be love at first sight if it took them years to figure it out? I wouldn't call it love at first sight no, Think about Ron/Hermione.. Ron didn't even like Hermione as a friend in the beginning, he thought she was an outcast... he was horrible to her in the beginning! You can't call that love at first sight... As for Harry, I think he looked at Ginny as a child, maybe sister, he didnt think of her in a romantic way untill their 6th year!
maybe for Ginny, who as we know, has had a crush on Harry since she was 10!
They might have been destined for each other, but love at first sight? I think not...

I believe there was a long topic here a short time back debating whether the Valentine Poem was even written by Ginny. Many felt that it was the work of Fred and George "Eyes as green as a pickled toad, hair as dark as a blackboard".
Also in the book SS/PS Ron and Harry didn't even like Hermione until. SS/PS page 179 The common room was packed and noisy. Everyone was eating the food that had been sent up. Hermione , however, stood alone by the door, waiting for them. There was a very embarrassed pause. Then, none of them looking at each other, they all said "Thanks," and hurried off to get plates.
But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.

They knew...deep down they knew that they had feelings beyond frienship. They just didn't admit it, scared of losing their friendship and cared for Harry.

Yes, Ron was horrible to her in the beginning. He wanted to convince himself that he didn't like a "know it all" like her. I would do that if i were Ron and she was Hermione and I loved her deep down. He just didn't realize it like i said.

Just to digress slightly, but I never understand why people think that Ron was 'horrible' to Hermione when he first met her. All he did was react in exactly the same way any 11 year old boy would have reacted to someone as bossy and interfering as Hermione was. It's not as if Harry liked her any better. Even the 'nightmare' comment was made in a moment of frustration and it wasn't as if Ron had meant her to hear it. The book made that perfectly clear with how uncomfortable Ron was with the whole situation.
Answering the question, I certainly don't believe that it was love at first sight. Quite the reverse in Ron's case. He genuinely couldn't stand her at first. It was only when he got to her know her better and realised what a great girl was hidden under her 'bossy know-it-all' exterior that his feelings began to change. Though I do think that his feelings were starting to drift in the direction of love or at least deep affection during COS. His concern over her while she was petrified was really sweet and a foreshadowing of what was to come.
On the other hand, I find Hermione much harder to figure out. It certainly was interesting how much she focussed on Harry and Ron from the start, especially with how obvious they made it that they didn't like her. It certainly could be said that something drew her towards them, though it could have just been her desperation to make friends. Those first 2 months at Hogwarts must have been very hard for her (there I go again, talking about the trio as if they were real people!), I know from personal experience how tough it can be not to have friends at school. And at boarding school it would have been a thousand times worse as she didn't even have her parents to talk to. So I'm pretty sure that it wasn't love. Hermione's feelings only really started to show during POA with more blatant clues during GOF, though I can't pin an exact moment of feelings development like I can with Ron.
As others have said, I'm pretty sure that Ginny's feelings at first were some kind of hero worshipping crush rather like Hermione's towards Lockhart. It is impossible to pin down exactly when those feelings transformed into real genuine love as Ginny was very much a background character during books 2-4 and we didn't really get to see that much in the way of how she felt during books 5+6 as well, even though it was clear that she had got over the worst of her embarassing crush stage at that point. I guess that it was probably during OOTP that her feelings really started to develop into full blown love.
