I don't know if it mentioned it in the books or not (sorry if it did!), but I don't know what house Andromeda was in when she went to Hogwarts. Does anyone know or have a good guess?

Since JKR said that Tonks was in Hufflepuff I'd guess that Andromeda was too. Of course she could have been in Slytherin like the rest of the family (except for Sirius). Being in Slytherin doesn't make you evil.

Location: Trying (and failing) to apparate into Hogwarts...
My guess would be Hufflepuff like her daughter. But I also think it was very Gryffindor of her to be different than her "evil" family (like Sirius). But then again, the hat may have put just put her in Slytherin with the rest of the family... I'm just stumped on this one! dry.gif

and Slughorn also complains that his house (Slytherin) had a full set of Blacks apart from Sirius, so the evidence we have points to Andromeda being in Slytherin. Tonks may take after her father, Ted Tonks.

I think she was probably a Slytherin (not all Slytherins are evil!) and just disagreed with her families prejudice attitude. I think she was a slytherin because it seems to me that her family turned on her for marrying muggleborn Ted Tonks, it is what they always stress when talking about how she is no sister of theirs. I think she is unlike Sirius in how he was disliked during his hogwarts years for being rebellious and becoming a Gryffindor. However, I can see her as a Ravenclaw. I figure that Ravenclaw is the only house besides Slytherin that REALLY Slytherin oriented people (like the Lucius Malfoys) wouldn't be so disapointed/ashamed if their child was sorted into it.

Slytherin just has a bad connotation. It is described as a house for ambitious people seeking power. It happens so that dark wizards and witches usually fell into this category and that the Sorting Hat placed them in Slytherin because old Salazar himself would have wanted them in his house. Slughorn is an example of a decent Slytherin- he wanted to influence people with great potential although didn't like the Dark Arts. I see Andromeda as a either a -good- Slytherin, or a Ravenclaw. Ted Tonks (though a Muggle) seems a likely candidate for Hufflepuff- jovial, good natured, friendly, good humored- and Tonks is like him, so she was in that house.

I agree with SevSnapeSupporter in that she was most likely in Slytherin or Ravenclaw. I believe her family didn't disown her until she married a muggle born, so she must have been in a house that was acceptable to them. I remember in SS that Draco said he wouldn't mind Ravenclaw if he didn't get Slytherin, so I'm assuming Ravenclaw is an acceptable house to Slytherin-y types. Although for some reason I always assumed Andromeda was in Slytherin like the rest of her family.
