No one can deny that POA was filled with moments that made one grip the edge of our seats. The Dementors alone are enough for that, not to mention an extremely menacing Sirius; but there were plenty of other junctures where we could almost have shrieked out in tension. ohmy.gif

Which was the one you found most tense or scary ?

And why ?

Wonderful poll!

The scariest moment for me was when the Dementors cornered Sirius and almost kissed Harry. It was just chilling! But every scene in which the Dementors were present were very tense moments and one could certaily feel Harry's fear as something very palpable.

I'd have to agree. The Dementor scenes, especially the one where Harry almost gets kissed. Also, the scene where they are first introduced.

And, before we learn of Sirius Black's innocence, the chapter where his identity is revealed is pretty scary.

I voted for all of the scenes which involved a dementor.
The scene on the train was disturbing, especially since Harry could hear a woman screaming. The train stopping and going cold was pretty scary, as it is clear that some thing involving dark magic must be causing this.
Harry's fall from his broom during the Quidditch match, because of the dementors was scary too--Harry nearly was killed.
The scariest episode that involved dementors though, was when the dementors attacked Sirius, Harry, and Hermione.Brrrrrr! I need chocolate just thinking about it!

Am I the only one scared by the idea of werewolves?

Or maybe that dementors going-after-Harry scene didn't get me because I never really thought that Harry could die? I was only ever afraid of Ron or Hermoine kicking the bucket.

Never was scared for Snape or Lupin or Harry... Shows me, huh?

The one that scared me the most the first time I read it was when the fat lady was attacked by Sirius. At the time you think he's such a bad guy that the idea that he had managed to penetrate the castle's defences and attack the portrait freaked me out hugely. All the rest was scary but that was the one that really brought home to me that Hogwarts may not always be the safe haven we thought and I never really felt secure for the rest of the books since then, even though he got in for 'good' reasons. The idea that the castle could be infiltrated had me on edge especially in GoF and HBP.

PoA was filled with many tense moments. I'd say the whole Shreiking Shack part was most tense, begining with Ron getting dragged by the dog, and ending with Lupin becoming a warewolf. Some parts were scary, but most parts were just downright shocking.

The whole of the Shrieking Shack episode, from when Ron was dragged inside the Whomping Willow to when the Dementors turned up, after Lupin had his "furry moment" are siriusly (lol.gif) scary for me. The most tense moment for me was watching boring Scabbers who never seemed to do anything transform into Peter Pettigrew. I had to scrap my jaw off the ground several times on first reading! read.gif rolleyes.gif

When Remus turned into a werewolf, I just knew, it was all over. rormtail turned back into a rat and returned to Voldemort. Serius was in grave danger, and the kids had no one to help them. As it was, only Dumbledore and his permission for Harry and Hermione to use the Time Turner could save the day.

For me, the scariest feeling was when everyone was coming back to Hogwarts from the Shrieking shack. Honestly, I knew something was going to happen because Harry was too happy at the prospect at going to live with Sirius and something told me it wasn't going to stay that way.

Remus turning into a werewolf was extremely frightening. The very idea of a person who was so kind and loving turning into a total monster is so scary ! It's as if the person you knew is no longer there, not only that, in his place is a beast that doesn't know you and would kill you as soon as look at you. Greyback doesn't evoke the kind of fear Remus does because he's the same whether transformed or not. It's the contrast between Remus and the werewolf he turns into that's so frightening. *Brrrr* wolf.gif
