Now I understand that Harry was trying to save the world, Ron was a bit thick in the head when it came to girls, Hermione in particular; but why is it that Harry has to wait to what 15 to get his first kiss and Ron's 16 going to 17 when he's with Lavender? Couldn't they have saved the world and had more than one date between the two of them before 5th year?

Now I'm from the US so it might just be that in NYC where I'm from kids start dating at like 13 or 14. But don't Ron and Harry seam a little old to just be starting the relationship thing at 15 or 16 even with a war going on?

Ginny had two boyfriends and she's younger, Dean dated Ginny, Draco had Pansy, even Percy had a girlfriend.

What do you all think?

I think that there is no particular reason that they started dating girls a little later than some others at Hogwars. Everyone is different and they need to do what they feel is right for them. I think that it is the same in real life as well. Everyone's different. Take me for example I am 16 and have not been on a date, ever been in a relationship or anything that was even remotley close to a relationship or boyfried. So I think that the wizarding world is no different than real life. I also think that people these days start dating way to early...but that is getting a bit off topic..and I could go on and on about that subject...so I will just stop typing now! smile.gif

I think that in the real world and the wizarding world it really just depends on the individual. Ron and Harry were both pretty akward around girls even when they were in relationships, I don't think they were ready before that. We know Harry was into Cho when he was 13 but even by 14 he struggled to make coherent sentences in her presence but somehow I'd imagine Fred nd George had less trouble in that department at that stage. I suppose Harry & Ron were just late bloomers by the standards of modern teen culture rolleyes.gif

I think it is simply that Harry and Ron had too many other things to do to get a girlfriend. Harry is attracted to Cho towards the end of PoA and Ron notices Fleur during GoF, but in general they are doing too much to notice girls much or act upon any feelings they do have.

I think that they were "late" for the modern standarts because of a combination of factors. Harry, Ron and Hermione had always been involved with this war caused by Voldemort, since their first year. So, their mind was full of this preocupations. And, also, there is the personality of each person. Until their first relationship, they weren't prepared for this. kiss.gif

Harry and Ron weren't 'late' at all, the others were all extremely early. Especially Ginny seemed rather obsessed with all of that. In fact the ability to wait a few years longer is an indication of superior mental maturity.

I don't think it's Hogwarts, I think it's just Harry and Ron being quite uncomforatble and awkward. I think Harry also has slightly more important things on his mind, and Ron is just really quite scared of women personally.

Personally, I found their "delay" with relationship to be endearing, extending their period of innocence and wonder. I feel like it made them (Harry and Ron) even more unlikley heroes since they weren't trying to be something/someone they're not to impress others (well, most of the time wink.gif). They were truly acting out of their own innate bravery, loyalty, innocence, and love.

i think bc they were too uncomfortable around girls to get in relationships before that. and they were too busy fighting LV to think about it, too. and maby its just me, but as thick as harry and ron were about girls, they werent going to have a relationship with someone they didnt feel attracted to. especially harry. and yeah maby ron dated lav lav just for the snogging but there was physical attraction involved i guess. and after a while he got tired of it and waited for his true love to take the initiative smile.gif

ps. RubyRose, i love your siggy! made me LOL.

Ron was very immature so that sounds about right for him, and Harry actually started liking the asian
girl in his 3rd year, I think he was about 13 right?
