The 2008 Summer Olympics are only a few days away and we'd love to hear your thoughts (if any!) about the Games. group.gif

Do you love the Olympics or are you indifferent? Will you be watching and cheering on the teams from your country? Does your country get excited about its Olympic athletes? Will you be watching only to learn something about other countries? Do Olympic athletes represent the best of sports? Will the weather be favorable and the pollution levels remain low for the various events? ponder.gif

The Olympics start today! woohoo.gif

Because of time zone differences, our posters in various parts of the world might receive event results at different times, and some people choose to avoid the results so they can watch a recorded event without knowing who wins. All that to say, be warned that there could be spoilers posted in this thread.

For those who want to post about a particular event or outcome, there's no requirement to use spoiler tags. Olympic news is widely available and, after all, we're not dealing with a book. tongue.gif

So, proceed at your own risk if you're trying to avoid Olympic spoilers. reporter.gif

I love the Olympics and I will be watching as much as possible! I am going up north in a week and it is amazing to watch the the Olympics on TV with my family. I like the Winter games alot more, but I enjoy any Olympics because they are only on when they are on, and that is not very often! I love that that Olympics are something that make alot of countries come together just to have fun, enjoy themselves, and of course for competition. I think that our world needs a little peace, and I think the olympics could bring a bit of peace and happiness. But sometimes certain countries get mad at each other, or do really bad stuff to each other (like take people..or stuff like that!) so hopefully that doesn't happen!

I hope that it is a peaceful and happy Olympics. I will be cheering for the USA most of the time, but I like all the countries, so if USA isn't in something it will still be fun!

As much as it pains me, I will try and not watch any of the Olympics, except when Argentina's women hockey team is playing. It is my little way to protest against the hypocrecy of what's going on.

Honestly? Sorry, no I won't watch the Olympics. With what's surrounding them right now...it's just a travesty, really. Of course, I'll be rooting for the Brits(lol, despite my being in America!), but I won't be viewing them, just checking up with the online news and the newspaper reports. Other then that, absolutely not. So, yes I have to go with Fer_keeper on this...darkmark.gif

I prefer the winter games over the summer games anyway, but usually do still watch parts of the summer games. I won't be watching any of it at all this year though.

(Wish there wasn't two more years to wait for the Vancouver games.)

I prefer the Winter Games, too. I don't think I'll be watching much of the Summer Games over the next few weeks, but I will try to catch the Equestrian events.

I do understand the reasons why some people are choosing not to watch these Games. My thought on the matter is that the IOC is the body who selects the location, not the athletes. I'm comfortable watching and supporting the US teams, although I respect the decisions of people who choose to act differently. smile.gif

I love the Olympics! I kinda prefer the summer over the winter, but I really love them all. I miss the days when they came on the same year. Alternating every two years is cool too, though. At least we don't have to wait so long now. My first memory of the Olympics was Mary Lou Retton and her perfect 10's.

I'll be missing the opening ceremonies because I'll be at Terminus but I usually like to see what each host country does with them.

I don't think I'll watch much or any of the Olympics. I honestly don't see the Great Britain team winning many medals. Also I despise the Chinese attitude with the Olympics. I honestly I'm baffled at the IOC awarding them the host nation. China hasn't even lived up to any of the democracy and human rights conditions IOC set out for them, when they awarded it to them.

I like watching the Olympics. I love gymnastics! It's so beautiful to watch. I'd like to see some of the martial arts events, but they usually aren't broadcast at a time when I can watch tv. And unfortunately we don't have a system where we can set things up to record at any given time. Our vcr is supposed to be able to, but it's never worked properly. dry.gif

the are the olympics right? if for no other reason than that i watch them. Its historical, and countries never come together like that. This year of course has all sorts of controversy, which i think will attract more viewers.
