The Harry Potter films are, of course, not perfect, but then probably nothing is so. And we (or most of us) still love them and re-watch them endlessly. One can always find something to criticize, but let's discuss what we do like about the films here - what makes you like them?
I think, many actors do a great job bringing our beloved characters to life (even if they do so differently from what I imagined from the books) - perhaps you like the HP actors a lot and you watch the films to enjoy their acting?
I also like the way films are made. I think the directors and camera-people also do a great job - do you think so as well?
One more thing I like about the HP films is that they, in my opinion, look beautiful The costumes and sets of Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, etc. - oh my!
And music - let's not forget music - the magic beyond all we do here.
So, what are your favourite things about the Harry Potter films? Why? Why do you like the films? - Discuss away

The actors do a good job - most of the time The older actors - like Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane - show the Trio how to improve I think. The scenery of the films are always good - Scotland is the perfect place to film it. Diagon Alley, Honeydukes and the Shrieking Shack are excellently protrayed And finally I love the special effects - the way that they "blew up" Aunt Marge, the way Pro. Lupin turned from harmless Professor into a werewolf and the way boring Scabbers transformed into Peter Pettigrew were really well done Great poll

I shamelessly clicked that I love it all. I know the movies aren't perfect, but they are really a very fun adaptation of the books. The acting for the most part is wonderful, the sets are beautiful, the small details gorgeous, the costumes are mostly good (though I never really liked the wizard hats the kids wear in the first one), the cinematography is amazing in most of them (especially the last 3) and for the most part the direction is great too.
None of these things is 'perfect' but having seen some appalling adaptations of books to screen, we have really lucked out in just how much we get and how close it is to the story. Some of the characterisations are off in some of the movies, but even though that bugs me a little it doesn't stop me re-watching, so they must be doing something right

Like Harry's Horntail I just love it all, I see the films very separately from the books and I love to re-watch them. Sometimes, if my daughter and I are both home for a couple of days we have a Potterfest and watch them all one after the other.
I love the sets. Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade are wonderful, its exactly how I imagined it would be and Hogwarts, both versions, are great, I especially like the distance views with all the windows lit up, for instance when Sirius looks at it and remembers the first time he went there, or when the first years cross the lake towards it. I also love The Burrow, how I'd love to visit and explore, and the MoM, I thought the fireplaces for flooing were amazing, just right.
So much of the casting was just right, they're the characters I saw in my head when I first read the books. Dan, Emma and Rupert do a fantastic job, they've really brought Harry, Hermione and Ron to life, I just can't imagine anyone else playing them, as they've grown so has their acting ability. Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane as Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall and Hagrid are perfect, when I first heard they were playing those characters they immediately felt right and I couldn't wait to see them, I wasn't disappointed. Michael Gambon does a good job in OoTP and, from what I've seen of the HBP trailer, I think he'll be good in that too.
I also loved how the magic was shown, like the floating candles in the Great Hall, self-washing pans, I loved how the wall into Diagon Alley worked, when I read it I didn't get a clear image but when I saw it in PS I knew that's just how it should look. I also loved how they showed Grimmauld Place emerging and the patronuses and everything really lol.

QUOTE(Harry's Horntail @ Aug 7 2008, 05:50 PM) None of these things is 'perfect' but having seen some appalling adaptations of books to screen, we have really lucked out in just how much we get and how close it is to the story. Too right! At least the differences have been the same kind of differences we'd have if 1,000 rabid HP fans went out and made 1,000 different versions of the books. What I see when I read is not necessarily what you see when you read. What I think is important enough from the book to keep in the film wouldn't necessarily be what you would.
Earlier this week I began watching them as I exercise in the morning. Dang, but that little Rupert Grint did such a good job in SS! And Emma was excellent in her early arrogance. And of course, the adults are fabulous!
But what I really noticed as I watched it again was how deep and rich the wizarding world is that Columbus and his people brought to life for us. Diagon Alley is so full! It makes me think of those children's picture books where you have to find Gold Bug in each incredibly busy page. The fabrics, the styles, the various activities, and the great details on everything really make me want to be able to go there myself. If they are able to carry that into the new theme park--Woot! I've so got to go there for a vacation! I was thinking about how hard that would be to put everything together just to film Hagrid and Harry walking down the street! Their props people must have really been into the books to put in some of the stuff they did.

I agree with Teaspoon about the OotP fireworks, that is probably my favorite scene in all the movies!
I also checked "I love it all!", because I also see the movies as separate from the books, in fact, I like the OotP movie version of the battle in the ministry better than the book. There is not a better actor in the world for Snape than Alan Rickman, and I really like the casting for McGonagall and Lockheart.
I love the music, especially 'Hedwig's theme', and the opening theme of the first movie is still magical for me. My favorite of the movies is the first, because it is just a very simple, very straighforward interpretation of the book. I confess to loving the cinematography of PoA (which I know a lot of people hate), I thought it was just beautifully filmed, and I really liked the theme of time that the director played with in so many small ways.
See, I just love it all!!

I picked that I love it all, I mean there are of course things that aresnt that great in the HP movies, but all in all they are great, the actors are mainly good, there have been (in my opinion) miscast actors, and pieces of not-so-good acting at times, but in the end they are fine, and make the characters come to life in a new way!
Also I must agree that the Cinematography has been outstanding
And the special effects, they are amazing ,very realistic the HP films wouldn't be the same without them
