dear Pirate! I think that since we are all spread out in so many different time zones a birthday can last for three days, so here's to three days of !
Winter has reappeared down here, we have had two months of terrible wind and rain, and today its brilliant blue sky for the first time in ages.. but with it came a freeze to knock your socks off. We hit -5 celcius (thats about 23 farenheit), which has come as a bit of a shock for those of us who have to do work outside.
I'm glad your Mum has recovered Rosie - it is a shame about the disfigurement. Just keep tellingher a smart pant suit can be very very dressy!
Right, back on with the thermal gloves, I'm off to grab another sample. Someone have a hot toddy ready for me!

ARRRRRRGH!!!!!! It's a fine birthday ye be havin'
T'is a birthday poem I'll be writing to our favorite pirate!
May yer jug expand with grog and ye ne'er sail in fog. Let a fair wind have yer back, and may ye ne'er be looking back.
Ok that was pathetic, but it was from the heart!!! Bigs hugs.
Love spellchick

All of you - a 1000 thanks for all the birthday greetings!
Somehow i never counted on reaching 50 - somewhere in my mind i guess i'd expected to be attacked and strangled by neighbours with hayforks and torches, around the age of 35...
I'm awfully sorry that i haven't replied earlier - well, now we have a shiny new thread for it, which leaves a bit more space, i guess - but i was a bit worn yesterday.
My group at work had decorated my desk - with flags, a pirate flag, tiny viking figures (one of them looks like a real ol' drunk. Wonder why they did that?), a bit of poetry, candles... then the whole troop arrived and sang a "happy b'day" song (not sure what tune... there was at least three different ones) - visitors dropping in all day! The picture doesent cover 1/3 of the decorations... total chaos! At the end of the day, we sat in the canteen with a few crates of beer and soda pop - quite a flock, the dayshift was on it's way home (they were pretty rough on the beers) and the evening shift arrived (proud to say, they took only soda's. Damn dangerous to work with even a slight tipsy!).
After a few hours, i managed to fight my way home. I just got a mug of coffee, and buttered a few slices of bread - screeching brakes outside, and the house got invaded by some of the friends (had planned on a party for them a different day, so that was a suprise). They even brought a gift - a 50-pound sack of cement, gift-wrapped! And a few hints about me starting to maintain the house... One of them brought his 4-month old Boxer puppy! Lovely little dog...except that the li'l b------ ate my bread, when i turned my back... Oh well, they brought a cake...
Then arrived a basket of flowers and wine from the company (that was the official side of it) - and my union! That was completely unexpected. But they thougt it a bit unusual: this year was not only my 50th birthday, but also my 25th year as a union member. So, they would just say hi...
Past midnight before i managed to get to bed. I only managed to send a SMS to my daughter, saying thanks for the pressie, then i dropped....
...and up again at 4.30 to get to work...
I have been very impressed with all the attention i got: friends, family, workmates, this thread.... It really give me the warm fuzzies! Probably i should now do something like most bosses do - stand up and give some incomprehensible forward-looking mission statements - but i'm not really the type for that. Up to now i have had a quite interesting life: i just hope it carries on for a bit longer (being interesting).
It is very difficult to express my thanks to all of you. I'm very proud and happy to have met you all here.

Pirate, I am very glad to have gotten to know you too! I still marvel at how Harry Potter has brought such a diverse group of people together and has helped us forge bonds of friendship.
As for the movie delay - pah! We had to wait originally until December, so I bet we will have to wait another month after USA and UK this time too. And where I live, going to the movies here in July/August is a mission in getting as many layers on as possible and still fitting in the seats - our theatre isnt heated!!!
And since its the weekend tomorrow, its raining again. We are stuck in a 7 day cycle, with the rain starting on Friday and being heaviest on the weekend - then fining up by Tuesday. This is the 8th time in a row, I am beginning to feel a lack of vitamin D.

First off, Alysaw and Spellchick - it's not deja vu all over again - I already PM'd part of this post to you.
Hi, ALL:
Good news is that I got TWO offers for jobs in Florida! One from a law firm and another from the University. I am going for the University position. It pays a bit less but offers free graduate school and the position has room to grow. More importanly, I really liked the people there. Bad news is that I won't be able to go to NYC the weekend of September 26th. I had thought I'd be settled in Florida well before now and that taking a Friday afternoon off wouldn't be a problem. Then I thought I'd just fly up for the day and go back Sunday but the flight times aren't cooperating. Add to that the fact that trying to get my condo on the market for sale or rent ended up costing thousands of dollars more than anticipated, and it comes down to: I ain't going to NYC to see Equus. I'm really sad about that but also resigned to it. So if there's anyone who wants to go, please PM me. Pirate: I am sincerely so happy that your 50th was made special by all your friends, family and all of us here on Leaky. Many happy years to come.
I agree, Dayna, HP has brought so many disparate (or should I say desperate?) people from all over the world together. Isn't it amazing how the 'threads' of our lives cross???
Hope to chat again soon.

AccessDenied This was the message I received over and and over and over when I was trying to join Leaky ages ago so it became my name.
