Because in some parts of the world it has been May for awhile, I declare this Craft-Along officially in progress! Please post your hellos in here, maybe tell a little about what sort of crafts you are into, and get going on your wand!

Please be sure to pop into the other threads (in this Contests & Craft-Alongs forum and linked above) and check out the video walkthrough (also linked above) if you'd like to see how it's done.

Cheers!

Hello everyone -- I thought I'd post my own little intro.

I'm Rosemary and I have done, currently do, will do, many different types of crafts. The act of crafting is something I can't resist. Currently my craft of choice is knitting and/or crochet, sewing, and cross-stitching. However, preparing this Craft-Along and playing with non-fiber materials has been a bit of a breath of fresh air.

As you'll see in the video walkthrough I've made several of these already, but I'll probably make at least one more.. one that's exactly my taste rather than a bunch of varied examples to show everyone.

Cheers <3

Hi all, Rosemary dragged me protesting invited me to join in and try a new craft. Big jump for me as I am a creature of habit who gets comfortable in her routines and what she knows. Using clay has been something that scares me for the past few years. But here I am joining in.

I'm Mary and I and currently my craft of choice is crochet *coughcoughlots & lots of Molly sweaterscoughcough* and sometimes knitting. I also enjoy sewing, and cross-stitching. I also enjoy online rp, ren faires (in garb), anything medieval and celtic and tend to be a bit gothic as well.

Hopefully, I can successfully accomplish this craft along.

This looks like a great idea! I'm a dedicated needlecrafter, devoted to knitting, but I've been wanting to do a wand. I actually dreamed about finding or making an inexpensive wand last night.. Add to my list of things to pick up today: go by hardware store and look for dowels. Then see what sort of varnish we and Dad have on the shelf.

I have a quick question: about what size (diameter) dowel rod do you recommend?

Hi Amontillada, glad you could join us!

When I shopped for dowels the packs I found of pre-cut ones came in several diameters, all of which I think would make good wands. I think it will come down to personal preference. I think mine are 7mm or so, though. I will copy and paste your question and the answer in the techniques and materials thread for future reference smile.gif

I've got the supplies, hopefully I'll get mine made tonight. I'm making two wands, one for my Godson and one for my niece.

I love crafts, but rarely have time to devote to them, so I'm glad to have this excuse to get back to painting a little!

Look forward to seeing everyone's final product!

Doris

Hi, all.

I'm a Wandcrafter by magical trade, and have made many a wand at my lathe. Does that disqualify me for this Craft-Along? Are there limits to what we can do? For example, I'm about to make a bazillion more wands, due to local demand... Will my lathe-made wands qualify for this craft-along, or do we need to use the materials listed in the message announcing the month's projects?

My other hobbies/crafts are crochet and beading. I've done a little tiny bit of sewing, but I still manage to mess up my sewing machine and use it mainly under duress. I've also made some pillows, and I enjoy home repair projects. (Wierd, I know.) I also like to write, and am just starting to write down the stories that have been crowding my head for the past half century and then some. (Exactly how much "and then some" there is, I'll leave unsaid. I expect to live to 106 or more, so why get into the picky details, eh?)
