Riddle 1

Dark green in colour, I croon when touched;
My appearance repulses, so this doesn’t happen much.
I pulsate and squirm, emit sap from my skin.
All but healers and one other would chuck me in the bin.
More often than not I bring grimaces to a face,
I’m blessed not with beauty nor elegance nor grace.
I know not what I smell, but how I smell to you:
Noisome and stale, a miasma of poo.

Answer: Mimbulus Mimbletonia

What you will find when the answers unite,

Riddle 6

Forced to be a holder
For worst crime’s result.
Forever a slave,
Follower ‘til death.
Who is it?

Answer: Nagini

Author: sswolf

Percent Correct: 40.5%

Staff note to read after knowing the answer: We understand that Peter Pettigrew was a definite potential (amongst a few others), but Pettigrew does not fit all the clues, foremost, "holder for worst crime's result." This one particular clue seemed to be missed by most people when leaving comments about your answer choice in your e-mails. Length of servitude and being a follower are key points, but not the only ones in this case. As we know from the series, the worst crime is killing someone and LV used this to create his horcruxes, which then created "holders" for his piece of soul. Pettigrew and many others did possess LV at some point, but none of them were a result of LV killing someone (other than Harry, but he does not fit as a follower until death). We are sorry if any of you felt this riddle was particularly lax on the clues or misleading, but we do screen these through the entire team and this was deemed a fair riddle with the given clues (and solved by us).

Riddle 7

I lay in wait for one to come
to undo the magic that was once done
Evil abounds within my core
from one who came long before
rumors and legends all thought untrue
unknown and unsolved was my mystery, too.
My horrors have cost the life of one
Then I was found, my obscurity is gone.

Riddle 10

Grotesque you might say,
Unpleasant I am to see.
Stoic, cold, impassive,
Indifferent to your plea.
Beg, beseech, implore;
All are done in vain,
Still unaffected,
A private presence I maintain.
But if you relay a secret,
To me a special treat,
I am moved to include you
In the privacy I keep.

Answer: Gargoyle statue outside Headmaster's office
