I have to admit that I am a crazy Agatha Christie fan! I absolutely love the books! There have been a lot of movies based on her worldwide best selling novels. So which Agatha Christie based movies are your favorites? Which were a disappointment? Which actors have portrayed the loveable Hercule Poirot so convincingly? How about Jane Marple; which actresses have portrayed her character the best? Have the movies done justice to the ever so popular books?

How about the TV series? Do many of you enjoy watching Agatha Christie inspired TV and series which depict the novels?

And just to add more fun to this thread, MysteryloverAnne has created a wonderful poll on which Agatha Christie Detective was the best! In her own words: Peril at End House....Elephants Can Remember....At Betram's Hotel....The Mysterious Affair at Styles...Partner's In Crime... A Macabre Tea Party read.gif

Who do you think was Christie's greatest detective?

You may choose more than one option! Many thanks to MysteryloverAnne!!!

I tend to agree with you, MysteryLoverAnne. I too watched that episode of "Pocket Full of Rye." It does not begin to come close to the excellence of the version with Joan Hickson as Miss Marple, IMHO. I've been trying to reserve judgment on Julia McKenzie as Miss M until I viewed several of the episodes they are currently running. However, I must say that the plot lines were rather muddled and I wonder if someone watching the show who has not read the book or seen the earlier version would understand everything that was going on. I did think that Matthew Macfadyen did a good job as the inspector, and I did recognize Ben Miles, who played the older brother, as being from Coupling(though I did not know his name as you did, lol). As a side note of interest, that was Prunella Scales, who was the bane of Basil Fawlty's life in Fawlty Towers, as the elderly mother of the Mrs. Fortescue who was married to the older brother.
I'm wondering whether the producers of these last Miss Marple series( I didn't like the ones with Geraldine McEwan either) aren't missing the boat by trying to update Miss Marple a bit by making her younger and more assertive. Sorry, but that is not the character as Agatha Christie wrote her, and I think if you're going to do a period piece, stay true to the original.
