2009 Two-Part Riddles Contest *Addendum for May's part is here or scroll down.* Due to the great feedback we got from the last one and the level of enjoyment everyone had, the two-part riddles contest is back for 2009! Part One will occur during the month of April. You are invited to submit a riddle that relates to a person, place or thing found in the Harry Potter books. The contest team will select the best riddles from the entries to have 10 riddles to post. We will also write and post riddles to fill in any needs. From these 10 riddles, a new riddle will be posted in the Contest Corner each Monday and Friday at 9am EDT during the month of May (see schedule below) for Part Two of the contest. All contestants' riddle entries used in May (this excludes riddles created by the contest team) and all people who submit correct answers for all the riddles will be placed into a drawing for one of three Wizard Wood Wands. General Rules:
April's Part One Rules: During the month of April, the Contest Team is asking for people to submit riddles. To help you create your riddles, here are a few sources to help you along: write your own riddle worksheet (PDF, requires Acrobat Reader) and writing riddles from ehow.com.

You said that we can enter up to three riddles.
Can more than one riddle per contestant be chosen for part two, or do you just pick the better of the two? SiriusBSirius -------------------- SiriusBSirius The Ultimate Pride and Prejudice (1995) and Harry Potter FAN! Thanks to baulid, JeffHpFan, and blue4t for the amazing avatar images! ![]() |

Sorry, but is it okay if one of my riddles is like 83 words?

You said that we can enter up to three riddles. Can more than one riddle per contestant be chosen for part two, or do you just pick the better of the two? SiriusBSirius We pick the riddles based on merit, so if you've got two really good riddles, we may end up using both Sorry, but is it okay if one of my riddles is like 83 words? We'd like to encourage you to stick to 75 words or less because we do deduct points for going over the limit. All things being equal between a riddle that goes over the word count and one that stays within the perimeters of the contest, and we'll pick the one that complies with the rules. Hope that helps. -------------------- ![]() Devoted thanks to Dreamteam for the pics! She's a champion of the computer illiterate!! |

I just wanted to let everyone know that you may submit your three riddles separately. Just make sure when you submit them at different times (before the deadline) that you put in the e-mail that this is your 2nd and/or third riddle you're submitting. This way, if you've thought up one and can't think up two more at the time (you don't have to come up with three or even two), you have more time.

Yes that helps. I will work on shortening it. Thanks! -------------------- "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry,

May's Part Two Information Get ready...get set…Start solving! Friday, May 1st at 9am EDT or 2pm BST the first riddle will be posted on the Contest Corner! This will begin Part Two of the Riddles Contest! As a refresher, please read the complete rules here (scroll up), there will be 10 riddles posted throughout the month of May at the same time every Monday and Friday. To answer a riddle, you must e-mail your answer before the next riddle is posted. To help ensure you don't forget or confuse a time/day, there's a schedule posted at the end of the complete rules for your convenience here. To be eligible for a drawing of one of three Wizard Wood Wands, you must answer correctly a complete set of riddles. Those with all the answers correct will have their names placed into a drawing for one of the wands, along with those whose riddles we used for this part. If you submit an answer after the next riddle has been posted, your answer will not be counted. Please keep sending in answers if you miss a deadline, though. If no one has 10 correct answers, the next highest number correct will be used as the baseline to determine what number you must have correct to be placed into the drawing. Please read the complete rules carefully for Part Two before you submit your answers. There have been a few minor changes that were stated in the rules and a few housekeeping things that need to be said.

i want to answer for riddle 1 ...... but before that i want to know whether i should write the answer in email only or i should answer in some format like word or pdf and add attachment to mail? will this format be ok? name: screen name: my answer : and another question...i am able to allowed to send only 1 answer or 3 answers ???? Simply put your answer in the e-mail. There's no need for a Word doc or PDF or anything special at all. That format is perfectly fine. I suppose I should say that if you supply your real name and your screen name, the screen name will always be used. So if you really want to use your real name (this goes for anyone), please supply only that. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 1 or 3 answers, but please keep one answer per e-mail per riddle. Some of these riddles might have more "vague" answers than a simple "Harry Potter" or "Snitch." For example, our last Riddles Contest we had one answer that was simply a Hippogriff but Buckbeak and/or Hippogriff were accepted (some people did supply both). In that regard, giving more than one answer is okay as they are both related. If the answers are not related, it won't be counted. Hopefully that answered your question. Good luck! -------------------- |
