Apologies to all! The answer and author of Riddle 1 has been posted in the same post as the riddle. It totally slipped our minds. Won't happen in the future. smile.gif

ETA: The answer and author of a riddle will be posted AFTER the deadline for that riddle.

Are we allowed to discuss the riddles for which the answers have already been posted? I'd really like to know what "the wizard's intent is my directive, face me alone and you'll find me effective" part of riddle #4 meant. I thought for sure I had the wrong answer because that part didn't seem to fit.

Yes, I was really confused with this riddle, and still am! Though I love a tough great riddle like this one. wacko.gif
I don't understand the "face me alone, you'll find me effective,"

Well, I'm glad it wasn't just me that had trouble with it! That one line just stumps me.

I was stumped by Riddle 4 as well. I ran out of time and had to post the best answer I could come up with, which sadly wasn't good enough. I'm going to assume since the answer is posted we can discuss the riddle. If not then I expect the Contest Staff to delete this post.

I guess that line means that without someone else there to tell you that you're not really upsidedown the mist would be very effective in causing you to panic and send up sparks for help or trapping you there with your own fear.

So sorry! We've all been really busy and I've been slightly under the weather all weekend.

You're more than welcome to discuss the riddles!

First of all, those two lines are two separate sentences. So don't take them together. Secondly, didn't Harry just yank his foot from the mist and he "fell?" His intent was to get out. And, I agree with onespeedonly on the being alone part.

Riddle #6 will be posted in about 6 hours smile.gif

Well, that makes sense. I guess I was just thinking too literally. I DID come up with the correct answer, but I was convinced it was wrong because I was looking for something that when you touched it, it would do something to you and that the spell could not be broken by one person. Like the dragons, you have to have multiple wizards to stun it....I was looking for something similar with this riddle. Something that you couldn't handle by yourself. But your explanation makes sense, as does that of the wizard's intent. I was thinking of the wizard who placed the enchantment on the object, not the wizard affected by it.

If we submit an answer to a riddle and then realize we were wrong and want to send in the correct answer, can we submit a second answer with "correction" or something? I want to be sure before I send in an answer that if I by chance come up with something better, I can resubmit. Or do I need to wait until I'm absolutely sure?

I'm a little curious to find out how many people have actually gotten all the riddles right thus far...can we get a tally, or do we have to wait until the contest ends?
