Here I am again with another question that I have no clue where to ask!

Is there any way for me to order the UK audio books read by Stephen Fry (even though I live in the US) and still support Leaky?

Oh yeah JD's version of Hagrid is fab, but I also love hi McGonangall voice, and his Umbridge "Ahem, ahem!"

Jim Dale cannot pronounce Hermione's name correctly in SS. It is extremely annoying to me, seeing how she is my favorite character, and every time I hear him say it wrong, I correct him! (that's the Hermione in me...)(like how Ron was pronouncing his spell incorrectly comes to mind). Also when he has her calling him "Harrrrry". He says it funny, hard to describe sounds with words...

Anyways I wonder if he continues to mispronounce Hermione's name throughout the other recordings. In GoF, that's when when learn how to actually "officially" pronounce her name once and for all...

He pronounces Hermione the same way right through to the HBP! I think it's more his accent than a mispronounciation, but I do understand the irritation. I feel the same every time I hear ACCIO! as asseo!

Just out of curiosity, is the Jim Dale version specifically for the U.S. market... if so why did they not get someone from the U.S. to read it, as there is the Stephen Fry version for the U.K?

I remember Hagrid pronouncing it that way as well.

HERE is where JKR mentions it on her site, about the proper pronunciation of Hermione.

Here is the specific quote from GoF:

"Hermione was now teaching Krum to say her name properly; he kept calling her 'Hermy-own'.
"Hermy-own."
"Her-my-oh-nee," she said slowly and clearly."

(p. 418-419)

I'll reply to this thread as well IA. I'm not sure what you're hearing with the Dale versions, but it's obviously not the same as mine. He does pronounce the name correctly, just as does JKR, and Stephen Fry. I'm not sure where you are hearing a difference. "Her-my-oh(or a)-nee".

I even went back and relistened to SS just to be certain I didn't miss a glaring flaw (after the ten times I've already listened to it). Perhaps it's the British accent that's throwing you off, because his pronunciation is, as always, flawless. (and directed by JKR)

How exactly are you hearing his pronunciation?
