i was looking at the aunt petunia and dudley topic in this forum, and it got me thinking about petunia and vernon.

there was an idea that dudley was the first person she loved since lily left, which is why she mollycoddles him so much, so what about uncle vernon?

did she ever have feelings for him? did she marry him for money? does she love him or just like him???

your thoughts please tongue.gif

mods move this if neccessary smile.gif

She and Vernon probably just got married because no one else could put up with them so they just got together lol.gif. But to be honest I think they "love" each other because the way Vernon protects them when "magical" accidents happens he always tries to protect Petunia and Dudley

When I think of it, its like a new adventure waiting to be explored. Everything that humankind discovers or tries to figure out leaves nothing for the IMAGINATION because there are FACTS to prove you right or wrong. But the afterlife makes you wonder: what next?

I always kind of got the impression that Petunia and Vernon's relationship was based on comfort and expectations. They are comfortable with each other because they are safely within their zone of acceptability and with each other's expectations of one another. As for the why of their marriage, it was probably expected for them to get married, and Petunia would have wanted to be "the good child" even at an adult age--Vernon was just another way of being "good" and "normal."

Though the challenge of finding someone else that would put up with them is also a valid point.

I kind of have the same sense as everyone else...I sometimes wonder if there ever was a time when they were passionately in love. Theirs is another backstory I eagerly await in that Encyclopedia...

I have no reason to believe that Petunia and Vernon didn't love each other. No one can ever see the reality of a marriage from outside it.

I think that they do love each other, they just aren't all passionate and lovey. They have achieved what they wanted, a plain suburban existence in which public displays of affection are discouraged and settling into a dull life is desirable. Thank goodness! The idea of them kissing..... shocking.gif !

I think they just, somehow, ended up together. But then again, maybe they saw something in eachother that noone else could see...
But yes... the thought of them snogging is quite disturbing.... eww...

I can just imagine Vernon and Petunia meeting at a local 'Conservative party' fund raising dance, where Vernon impresses her with his political views on dealing with misfits and the 'unusual' people that he feels plague society. lol.gif lol.gif

So maybe a joining of view points rather than hearts wink.gif

seeing as vernon was opposed to the abnormal and unusal, and he kept suggesting 'what to do with these people', then shouldnt petunia get a little defensive, seeing as her sister is one of the 'abnormal'?
