Not how I imagined APM to look like. I always had somthing like the Bloomsbury adult edition cover of Half Blood Prince in mind.
By the look on Harry's face and the evidence in his hand, I think a certain sectumsempra might have just happened.

I'm 99.9% Sure that Harry in this scene has just walked into the Boy's Dormitry, the outside area looks like a stone/brick wall, the sort of colour of the stone walls that are in the spiral staircase to the boy's rooms, it looks as if Harry might have just burst in through the door angrily, I can also see a part of what appears to be their 4 poster beds red curtain drape on the left of the picture, and the door and wall paint inside looks to the style of the dorms in the movies.

I really imagined the book to be brownish colour, alot more tattered looking also, I saw this image on a website, but also found out that it is the cover of the Half Blood Prince UK Adult book, so I suppose this is why I thought the book to look like that, since JK Rowling supposedly chooses the items (Eg; The Locket)

On the cover it says Advanced Potions Making, it can be found on the HBP UKA Book cover via google if you want to find a close up. Though I suppose since in OoTP the books Umbridge handed out in her DatDA's class seemed like that, sort of novelty look almost, but still I'd expect more tattered. This banner is really lovely, it's has what the book I imagined like on it in better detail to the small image I showed you if you wish to click it, not too large Image.

Gah, I'm really picking on small detail here but in every movie appart from PS and CoS his scar has changed, it used to be bold and red and near the end of his eyebrow, now it's some thin line that can be confused for a hair line, barely red and somewhere high up in the center of his eyebrow, well almost left adjusted to the forehead it's that high up. I like that he looks like he did in PoA, PoA was one of my fave movies that has been made, I think all in all it's a good shot for a sneak peek and I can't wait to see more. -stares at his long post-

A bit, a mix between PoA and OotP. I wish movie Harry had Harry's unruly hair! (as in PoA)

W00t! excited.gif
So we're getting official pics already ... that is so awesome and I'm already excited for this movie. I really hope that they get it right because there are so many important storylines and subplots that in themselfs could be consider less important by the movie guys but in fact are essential to the over all story.
Harry's look is really good (they didnt do some crazy new look or anything lol) and I agree that judging by this one pic he does look like he did in PoA. The book is not at all how I imagined it to be though. A lot of attention to detail went into OoTP (not that I have the DVD yet but thankfully there are all the Gallery pics to amuse me lol) especially with things such as The Quibbler and the Daily Prophet. Hopefully similar care will go into HBP.

I love the picture, I can't believe we're already getting 'official' pics (its so soon! But I love it!), but I do have to say that that book needs to be bigger. You know the chemistry textbooks you get in high school? Like that! Ok.. maybe no that thick, cuz those things are huge, but something bigger than that mini-book!

I agree! I have the Bloomsbury Adult paperback of HBP and the image of the Advanced Potion Making book on the cover greatly influenced my reading of the story. Though the colour does seem to be the same, even if it is smaller than you would imagine.

I quite like this new haircut. I don't expect Harry's hair to be the same for each movie because he has to grow with the character and people's hair does change naturally over time.

I agree with LiamFuller, I think Harry is in his dorm room too! Maybe he is seeing Ron leviscorpusing himself. lol.gif

Yay!!! I love the official images. woohoo.gif

Awesome! I can't wait! I always thought the Advanced Potions book would be much thicker, but oh well.

I was just curious on what people thought about which scenes will be altered, skipped, etc.

For example, I would REALLY love to see Spinner's End exactly as it is in the book, but obviously it's going to be cut down a bit, altered, or at worse, cut so it only shows Narcissa talking to Bella (actually, not to bad). I just really want HBP to follow the book somewhat because HBP has a very intricate plot.

I really can't wait!

squee.gif THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!
Alright! The return of the elusive Marauders Map, I wonder how much precious movie time will be spent explaining what it is to non-readers, hopefully not much.

Dan looks goo heart.gif ood, I really like his hair, it's not as short as OotP and nowhere near as long as that GoF moptop *shudders* (just my oppinion)

That has got to be the thinnest school textbook I've ever seen... my backpack is envious.

i'd imagine that they would assume that if your going to see HBP that you have watched the other movies or read the books

I think the Map is being used as a bookmark in-between the book's pages. So we only get to see a chunk of it, making it look smaller. 'Cause you're right, that is a REALLY SKINNEH textbook. Unnatural.....

If you check out the hi-res version in the gallery I think you can see both book ends. Seems like he is holding the map behind the book.

As theonlysong mentioned, the map is, indeed behind the potions book. However, I have a theory (actually 2 tongue.gif) about the "thiness" of the book. The first, which is really out there, is that since it is a magical textbook, it expands as needed by the user ala Hogwarts. The second, which is more plausible and what I truly believe, is that the pages are really thin, making the book more compact. I have lots of foreign editions that use very thin paper to get as much info in as little space as possible. Also, as it is Harry's 6th year, I would assume that a lot of the instructions for various advanced potions would pre-suppose the student already knew the basics, and the more difficult potions expanded on those basics.

QUOTE(theonlysong)

I would wager they are going to axe the old/new plot thread, as it isn't necessary to the main plot. So, Harry will most likely just have the one "old" book.

And, yes, I think this film is going to rock! Emma Watson just updated her site talking about filming Sluggy's party which is one of the scenes I thought for sure would not be filmed! woohoo.gif Is it November yet?

Hi all! This is a friendly modly reminder that this thread is for discussing images for the Half Blood Prince film that have been officially released by Warner Bros. There is a terrific thread (and poll) here for discussing your most anticipated IMAGES for the film. smile.gif

I expect we will be getting new images soon, and then--look out! group.gif

I was a little surprised we've only got the one picture -- but I'm OK with the size of the book. It's got the right beat-up and used appearance, and the fact that Harry's carrying it with the Marauder's Map tells us he's thinking of it as one of his more prized possessions. Remember, too, that Harry has traded covers with the new book he ordered, so it's not going to look on the outside like a 50-year-old book anymore -- it's just the inside that is going to be battered and abused!

That got me thinking actually about how the props department are going to do the Half-Blood Prince's (aka Snape's) minuscule handwriting in the film. I expect they won't get Alan Rickman do to it, but will they have someone copy out all the hints, tips and new spells he left in the potions book in tiny handwriting. Seeing as we have got a picture of Harry holding the book then maybe they have already done that.

As mentioned on TLC Main that new image of the trio we saw in the Nick Magazine article has been released in fabulous hi-def by Warner Brothers --

You can see it in it's massive glory here in the Galleries!

It's funny how with each new movie we get a picture of the Trio in the Common Room.
I guess that is to let the fans know how they're gonna look like and to draw attention to the h***. tongue.gif

I think the 'blondeness' in Hermione's hair may be to do with the lighting in the shot. It looks like the photographer used a fixed light source to brighten the scene in the dark common room. All the Trio's hair is quite light compared to how we normally see them in the films. Plus Emma may have only just have started dying her hair brown when they filmed that scene (she is a natural blonde), so the roots are not yet fully coloured hence the blonde streaks.

I want to see the teaser trailer soon and more images. smile.gif

May I ask what is that next to Ron (Rupert)? Emma's hair looks darker than it has in non-filming pictures I've seen of her recently.

I personally am not botherd but Emma's blondeness...so wat if it has a blonde tinge to it, people havent complained about Dan's BLUE eyes ( with the exception of me, who has complained alot about it, try every time youhh see Dans face in the movies biggrin.gif )

Oh, I thought that was a bowl, but it looked like it had a handle or something. Would that be another bowl next to it then? Maybe I should just wait til November (what a long time to wait) to find out what it is and why there is a bowl of walnuts in the common room. Is Ron eating walnuts? Are they at a party (only reason I can think of as to why there's a bowl of nuts)? Why would Hermione be reading the newspaper at a party? Sorry for asking so many questions that no one can answer.

I still think that book is too small ... but, I do like this picture. You can really tell that Harry is trying to get them, Hermione most of all, to see the awesomeness that is this book.

I feel a classical Emma gasp in that pic though. Hehe. Its just, whenever she needs to make a surprised face, or something like that, she kinda overdoes it.

As mentioned on TLC Main an "official" poster for HBP has finally surfaced, but it is merely a logo poster--no images.

You can see it here in the Leaky Image Galleries.

Hmmm.....I noticed it just has "2008" at the bottom. I thought the release date was set for Nov. 12? I hope they're not having some sort of difficulties that will push it back. I'm seriously impatient over here, lol.

cry.gif we haven't been told our official release date yet but I'm going on a limb and saying it'll be the same as Australia's a whole 20, yes 20, days later. I'm kinda hoping that the 2008 date on there is because they're going to do some quick wand work and bring the releases back into line. Like how they changed up the US OotP releases to the same as the UK etc. Probably wishful thinking here, but I'm holding onto my hope from the date thing.

Hmmm......good point about the various release dates worldwide. I remember when the Goblet of Fire movie came out, we were in Uruguay on vacation and it came out there about a week after it was released in the US, which surprised me. Somehow I thought it would take longer than that (especially considering they had already added subtitles).

I read some months back that the release date of HBP would be 21 November, though I'm not sure if this would be worldwide or just UK and USA. Was OoTP released at the same time in Australia then as the UK and USA?

Can anyone notice the two white shadowy figures in the top half of the poster? I wonder if they may be inferi in the Cave. unsure.gif I have to say this teaser poster is not as exciting as the one for OoTP with a luminescent Voldemort reaching out with his hand.

Yeah 21 November is the date I know of ... Australia's date as far as I know (ie last time I checked) is December 11. And I'm assuming Aussie got OotP the same time as the rest of the world. I know we did, so i assume they did too.

I keep trying to see these figures that people are mentioning but to me it all just looks like camera shining a light on the poster, maybe it'll be clearer in a hi-res picture ... and I completely agree that Voldemort OotP one was amazing.

I was going to make a comment about that new image, but someone called Mr. Moustache in the news comments was even funnier than I intended to be!

Oh, WB, WB, WB. Just because it's the sixth film doesn't mean that we can do with just a blank bit of paper. Although, I do need something to scrawl notes on....

Seriously, though. Mr. Moustache has the right idea. Maybe it is us getting inside the head of Harry. It's a little bit boring though.

You're exactly right, are this poster and our lack of a trailer some kind of marketing ploy to make the movie mysterious? That would work if HBP had a stronger mystery plot line, I'm not saying there aren't mysteries in this one, but when is comes down to who done it... SPOILER ALERT... Voldemort done it surprise.gif Shocker, I know.
Hmm... I suppose this is just my pent-up frustration for lack of a trailer. I think I will write WB a very strongly worded letter grin.gif

I cant quote posts but all the people that hopefully suggested the *2008* on the HBP poster is because different countries have different release dates, I dont think it's because of that. Looking at old HP (& non-HP) movie posters, unless they're for movies that are due for release like more than 12 months away, they have a date. Even if that date will not be the same in all countries, they have a release date, or at the very least a release month.
I dont know how much they pay a designer to produce a WB poster but I volunteer for the job. grin.gif
Seriously, we're like just over four months from the movie release (if they do release the movie? Or will that be in a secret location?) & the only poster that we have is the HP logo. It's a very nice logo. But, we have seen it before. I probably wont be rushing out and buying that one.
Like before OoTP we had huge discussions about the significance of the movie posters, who was the central featured person & their counter-part shown in the prophecy globe, there was a whole series of these posters, as well as the creepy LV poster.
*sigh*
Ice Age 3 is released August of next year & that has trailers, pics & everything. <--- hinthint WB, if you're reading this ...

With the HBP trailer allegedly just around the corner (latest rumour is it will precede Batman: The Dark Knight which opens July 18) we are finally seeing some new, "official" images for HBP! woohoo.gif

As noted on TLC Main the August 2008 issue of Empire Magazine features a beaten and bloody Dan Radcliffe as Harry on the cover --

Here in the Galleries

Even better, the inside image accompanying the article on upcoming Blockbusters, shows Harry again, in his dress robes, looking somber and contemplative --

Ok I completly agree. I don't get why they won't even tell us when the trailer is coming out! Not to be comparing or anything, but the Twilight trailer has been out for what...a month now and they STILL havn't said a word about the HBP trailer and that movie comes out first!

NOT FAIR :/

At last, some official pics. They're really awesome and bring so much *atmosphere* like just a couple pics give a feeling that something's badly wrong. It's also a relief to see these somber pics because there was an interview describing HBP as a *romantic comedy* blink.gif which was somewhat worrying because, the book I read wasnt a romantic comedy. These pics really rock & show Dan's continuing development as an actor. I think when an actor can convey and say so much with a facial expression it's really something.
I am so excited for Batman this movie. squee.gif

Ahh! So many new images! I love it! excited.gif woohoo.gif dance.gif

That one of Luna is really nice! I love the glasses. smile.gif

Edit: The only thing I don't like is Slughorn's hat. It looks like a graduation cap, not something a teacher would be wearing.

I'm confused...who are those two other girls behind Hermione? L-R I see Neville, Lavander, Parvati, unknown gryffindor, unknown gryffindor and Hermione towards the front. Why are all those kids in sluggy's classroom? If its a Slug Club meeting then where are the other kids...and if its potions class why the heck is it just gryffindor students and um who are they? only Harry Ron and Hermione made it to potions from their house.

Actually the gryffindor at the farthest corner(right) is Romilda Vane...I think it is just a potions class because we see a lot of cauldrons and stuffs and it looks like Hermione's answering sluggy's questions...May be the other kids are at the other side of the dungeon...

Got to say first of all, not quite how I pictured Sluggy but seeing as the canon description isn't a million miles away from canon Vernon Dursley I have to say I was expecting some deviation, but like I say as long as the spirit of the character is portrayed correctly I don't mind the variances. Really these must the bubbling of a trailer eruption.

From USA TODAY in the Galleries

And a close-up --

From EMPIRE MAGAZINE in the Galleries

Yayness Supreme! woohoo.gif woohoo.gif

I also see Neville in the far left of the top picture. If I remember right neither Neville nor Lavender were in Slughorn's NEWTs Potions class.

Slughorn looks how I thought he'd look if played by Jim Broadbent. I see they put a fatsuit on him. The bottom image I think is from the time when Harry is trying to get the Horcrux memory off Slughorn.

I'm really excited about the new images but I don't like how they have all those Gryffindor's in Sluggy's class. But I guess they kind of skimmed over OWLs in the movies too so why not skim over the changes in courses. *sigh* I'd love for them to make it the way it's supposed to be but it never is. I was wondering where Harry and Ron are too but then I saw in the clearer picture a piece of what suspiciously looks like Dean's head behind Sluggy so I'm assuming they are just off screen at that time.

I love Luna and the pic of Harry and McG. I really like the one of Harry in his dress robes looking all pensive. I'm guessing that's right before DDs funeral. I love how Harry is always wearing Chucks when he's in his muggle clothes. lol.gif Tom Felton is starting to look a lot older isn't he? They're all growing up.

Here is a higher-resolution copy of Sluggy's class --

It does appear they are smushing up the classes, as they usually do for the films, and I'm really not too fussed by it. As long as they stick to the main story, which they always do, then whatever works on-screen better than on the page is fine with me. smile.gif

Awesome pics! Yea!

I don't mind them putting too many students in the classes. except Romilda Vane since she's not even in Harry's year. It's not a big deal and hardly mentioned in the movies so it's not like it will really affect anything. Has there been any mention of Apparition lessons in the movie?

Everyone looks good for the movie and I really like Draco's hair.

Did anyone else notice that in the picture of Dumbledore (here in the galleries), Dumbledore is hiding his right hand behind his robes? They don't want to show us his blackened hand! I'm waiting to see that. Come on WB!

Really? That's interesting. Regardless, his hand that will have the CGI is hidden behind his robes in the picture. I wonder how long it takes them to edit the films, and when they actually finish that stuff? I hadn't even considered that it wouldn't have been done yet.

I do wonder where in the movie the still of Harry and Hermione is.
As for Ron's Quidditch gear, he looks like he belongs in Narnia or like he's going off to battle or something.

If you click on the full image link (here) the hi-rez version of the image reveals SOME sort of reflection in their eyes. I am positve it is the cursed necklace scene, however.

I love all the pics, Luna is awesome and the glasses rock (*sigh* I had so many theories about Specterspecs and The Veil and Sirius) and I agree that the snow scene with H&H is probably the pearl necklace scene. But, what's with Sluggy's hat? Someone else said it but, he totally looks as though he's at a graduation ceremony. Isnt it going to be totally confusing for anyone that didnt read the book? Instead of just being confused about his hat, they'll be confused about who Sluggy is. unsure.gif
But, otherwise, I love the new pics so much (I love the fact that we finally have pics)

After seeing the video game trailer and the quidditch outfit Ron is sporting in one of the pictures here, all I can say is that I really really do not like the new outfit's style. I mean, they look like soccer fractice vests (you know, those you use when the team needs to be separated in two groups). I really wish they had sticked to the older ones, PoA's or CoS and PS's quidditch robes were all right.

Yeah the Quidditch uniforms in CoS were much better IMO. I think the scene we are looking at is the tryouts for the Gryffindor team. The new uniform reminds me a bit of a nineties Aston Villa or West Ham football kit.

Yeah his hair does seem a bit whiter and longer. Maybe the stress is getting to him. I think having your hand cursed by a Horcrux would do that! unsure.gif

I agree with Harry's Horntail, I think the scene with Harry and Hermione looking down is from the bit where Katie Bell gets cursed by the necklace. I've looked at the high-res close-up and there does seem to be a Hagrid-like figure reflected in Harry's and Hermione's eyes.

They have been doing the "house/team jumpers" as part of the Quidditch uniforms since the beginning. I'm not sure why they went in the direction of protective gear (I mean, haven't the costume designers heard of "cushioning charms" -- my universal canon excuse for anything risky they do in the films, e.g. dragon chases, first-year seekers hanging by one arm from their brooms, etc. tongue.gif )

However, in their defense, the keeper is the goalie, and in most muggle sports, that position usually has more protective gear than the others. I like this pan shot from Empire Magazine which features several members of the Gryffindor team, undoubtedly at the infamous Felix felicis breakfast. biggrin.gif

The article images may be found here in the TLC Galleries.

Yes, it seems even the Ministry of Magic has a Health and Saftey Dept.

In relation to Sluggys cap, these were actually common place on teachers in the UK up until the 50's and 60's. A perfect example of this comes from an episode of Doctor Who from last year, Human Nature, where the Doctor turns himself human and masqurades as a teacher in 1913.

Harry and Hermione looking morose --

I wonder where this might fit in, if I didn't know any better I'd would have placed this in Godric's Hollow when Harry and Hermione visit his parent's grave, but obviously that's the wrong movie. ponder.gif

My first thought was that this might be during the new scene where the Burrow is attacked, seeing there seems to be snow in Harry's hair and they're dressed wintery – but the cursed necklace fits perfectly.

I'm so glad we're finally getting images! dance.gif

And a very pensive Harry and McGonagall in Dumbledore's office, no doubt after the attack on Hogwarts --

We will be sure to keep you posted as more images for the sixth film come to light. woohoo.gif

I thought it was an interesting bit of foreshadowing to have Harry holding Dumbledore's wand.

Great catch, Val_Halla--that is exactly what went through my mind when I saw this poignant and powerful image!

I think it is really wonderful that although many of the interviews and comments from the cast, director and producers have pointed up the "romantic comedy" aspect of HBP, they are also admitting the dark side of it as well (imo, the darkest book of the series.) This image as well as the one of Harry and Hermione looking on in the cursed necklace scene shows they are playing both aspects up in the images being released as well. cry.gif

Wow .. thank you, that is so interesting, I had no idea (plainly, lol) about the hats being common. It's still interesting (I need to broaden my vocabulary) that Sluggy chooses to wear such a hat when as we see there's a whole range & variety of hats available. Maybe Sluggy used to wear this hat in hos old days at Hogwarts & like how he still hangs onto the notion of the Slug Club, he's keeping the hat tradition, too.

I think that's a great idea and a distinct possibility, Moose_Starr. smile.gif nimbus xl beat me to the punch on mentioning that about the mortar-board caps. That same "scholar's wear" tradition is maintained in the films by the academic robes we see the students wearing, altered from PoA on to be more "magical."

One of the new hi-resolution images from the HBP film and shooting that I find very interesting is this one featuring director David Yates talking with his actors --

Here in the Galleries

We have heard that there is a new scene for the film with an attack on the "Burrow", and interviews have seemed to indicate that this happens during the Christmas break while Harry is visiting there. In fact, it has been hinted that the attack interrupts a "special moment" between Harry and Ginny. ohmy.gif

Look at the expressions on Dan Radcliffe and Bonnie Wright's faces . . . can't you just imagine how Yates is telling them how to play the scene . . . and then watch out for the Death Eaters!

I do like that we get to see a bit more of the Burrow again, but I am wondering how this added scene will play out. ponder.gif
