1 skein of fingering weight sock yarn in black
2 skeins of fingering weight sock yarn in yellow
US 0 (2.00 mm) long circular needles
Set of US 0 (2.00 mm) DPNs
3 stitch holders
Tapestry needle

32 sts and 44 rows = 4" (10.16 cm)

Instructions
Toe
CO 28 (32) sts in black, using the Knitty cast-on for toe up socks.

Arrange the sts so that there are 14 (16) on each needle, if using 2 circulars, or 7 (8) on each needle if using DPNs.

Round 1 - 2 circulars method
Needle 1: K2, right increase, knit across until 2 sts remain, left increase, k2.

Needle 2: K2, right increase, knit across until 2 sts remain, left increase, k2.

Round 1 - DPN method
Needle 1: K2, right increase, knit across.

Needle 2: Knit across until 2 sts remain, left increase, k2.

Needle 3: K2, right increase, knit across.

Needle 4: Knit across until 2 sts remain, left increase, k2.

Round 2
Knit across all needles.

Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until you have 60 sts total, 30 on each needle.

Foot
Switch to yellow yarn, and work in stockinette st across the bottom of the foot and (k4, p2) ribbing across the top of the foot until you reach the gusset.

Gusset
A note from the Crafty Witches: The author used Sock-U-Lator for these instructions.

Round 1
Needle 1: Work (k4, p2) ribbing across.

Needle 2: K2, L1A (lift the next loop below the live left-needle stitch), knit across until 1 st remains, L1B, k2.

Round 2
Needle 1: Work (k4, p2) ribbing across.

Needle 2: Knit across.

Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until there are a total of 76 sts, 34 sts on needle 1 and 42 on needle 2.

End with a Round 2.

Heel
Place the last 10 sts you knit on a stitch holder.

Work 1 row of (k4, p2) ribbing across needle one, then place those sts on another stitch holder.

Knit 10 sts from needle 2, then place those on a third stitch holder.

For the rest of needle 2, k1, L1B, k21, wrap and turn.

Row 1: P1, L1B, purl, wrap and turn.

Row 2: K1, L1B, knit, wrap and turn.

Row 3: P1, L1B, purl, wrap and turn.

Row 4: K1, L1B, knit, wrap and turn.

Repeat rows 1-4, always working 1 stitch fewer stitch each row, until you have worked a total of 11 short rows.

The final row in the pattern is: k1, m1, knit 10 stitches then wrap a stitch.

There will be 10 stitches on the left tip when you turn while wrapping.

Don't forget to wrap and turn when you work the final purl row. (33 sts on needle 2)

Heel Flap
Row 1: (WS) P1, L1B, p until one stitch remains, sl st last stitch to right tip, transfer the 10 gusset sts to the left onto the left needle so that they can be knit, slip the stitch on the right tip back to the left tip, then p2tog, turn.

Row 2: (RS) Sl 1, k until 1 stitch remains, sl last stitch knit-wise, transfer the 10 gusset sts to the right onto the left needle so that they can be knit, slip the first stitch, knit together with previously slipped stitch, turn.

Row 3: Sl 1, purl , p2tog; turn.

Row 4: Sl 1, knit , ssk; turn.

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until there are no stitches on the left tip when you turn to complete a knit row.

Pick up the instep stitches and resume the (k4, p2) ribbing using the Magic Loop method.

Leg
Work chart 2 once, making sure to continue the (k4, p2) ribbing throughout.

For the right sock, work chart 3A, then 3B around, continuing the (k4, p2) ribbing throughout.

For the left sock, work chart 3B, then 3A around, continuing the (k4, p2) ribbing throughout.

Work chart 2 once, again continuing the established ribbing pattern.

End with 2" (5.08 cm) of (k4, p2) ribbing in black.

Finishing
Bind off loosely in pattern.

Duplicate stitch chart 1 onto the heel flaps of the socks.

Weave in all ends.

Block lightly if desired.
