Is there any particular actor or actress that stood out for you?

I personally thought that the actor that played Draco Malfoy did a really good job. I dont really think the dumbledore they got for the third movie is quite as good as the one in previous movies.

Just for fun post which actors or actresses were your favorites!

My best:-

1. Ginny
2. McGonagall
3. Harry
4. Snape
5. Lucius
6. Hermione
7. Dumbledore (Harris)
8. Molly
9. Arthur
10. Luna

As far as I'm concerned they are all good, some I just like better than others! biggrin.gif

So many of the actors portray the characters exactly as they were in my head before I saw the films. In particular Alan Rickman's Snape has exactly the right tone of sarcasm and smoothness I heard when I read him. Maggie Smith is perfect, as soon as I heard she was playing McGonagall it felt right, I really couldn't imagine her being played by anyone else. I heard that JKR said she'd been asked whether she had any actors in mind when the first film was being cast and she immediately said "Robbie Coltrane for Hagrid" and, again, I can't imagine anyone else playing Hagrid, he's perfect. He'd asked JKR what sort of person Hagrid is and she'd told him he's the sort of person who roars into town on his motorbike, big tough guy in biker gear and then gets off the bike and starts talking about his garden and that exactly sums up my image of Hagrid, love it. Jason Isaacs is another who brings "my" Lucius Malfoy to life, he has the perfect amount of coldness and arrogance. I love the way these actors take the character that's in my head and make them real.

I actually think all the actors are great so I will only mention the 'spot on' and 'trouble visualising'

The ones who are spot on, according to how I read the characters in the books:
Maggie Smith,
Rupert Grint,
Daniel Radcliffe,
Matt Lewis,
David Bradley (Filch),
Robbie Coltrane.
I ALWAYS see and hear these actors when I read the books (I automatically transplant emerald green eyes onto Dan's looks when I read the books!). I can also visualise them in situations that I haven't seen in the films.
eg I can imagine Maggie Smith offering ginger newt biscuits in a stern kind of way. I can imagine her reaction to seeing Harry 'dead' at the end of DH. She does the hand on heart thing when shocked. David Bradley is perfect and even has the quivering jowl! Dan Radcliffe portrays the same emotional 'apart-ness' as Harry, which I think is very evident in the books. Matt Lewis I can really imagine doing his heroics in DH. I can picture the 'frozen scream' in the Acramantula scene in COS just based on Rupert's looks alone.

The ones who have changed or influenced my view of the book characters:
Evanna Lynch,
Alan Rickman,
Jason Isaacs,
I never pictured Luna in that way at all, but now I've seen OotP I can't help but see and hear Evanna when I re-read the books. Alan Rickman and Jason Isaacs have just MADE their characters.

Richard Harris AND Michael Gambon - I actually visualise DD as a hybrid between these two with Gambon's energy and Harris's majesty; Harris in DD's more serious mode and Gambon in his eccentric mode.

There are some that I have difficulty visualizing sometimes, although I do like the actors enough to over-ride that:
Mark Williams - Arthur is more serious in the books
Julie Walters - Molly is scary when angry
Emma Watson - Hermione is softer and less sure of herself (plus with very bushy dark hair)
Helena B-C - Bellatrix has a certain pulsating haughtiness
It's probably because the film-writers have limited the character too much (eg Hermione the Brains) or we haven't seen enough of them but the portrayal that I've seen so far doesn't fit with some book situations so I just can't picture these actors in them at the moment.

Nothing like:
Natalia Tena as Tonks- but to be fair she hasn't been in it enough to judge her portrayal.

I pretty much agree with your entire post, beyond the veil; I just have a few differences. biggrin.gif

Julie Walters: I think she actually does a great job at being Molly; the "motherly" way she acts towards Harry and her children is perfect, and though you're right, she's not quite scary when she's angry, I think we can forgive her that small fault.
Helena Bonham-Carter: True, she doesn't quite have the "pulsating haughtiness" (I love how you phrased that), but she makes up for with sheer bloody insanity and wickedness. And, she hasn't had that much screentime or lines, so maybe she'll get prouder in the next two movies.

Other than that, I totally agree with you on Maggie Smith's flawless portrayal of McGonagall (it was written with her in mind, it seems), on Evanna Lynch's brilliant interpretation of Luna (I'm in love), on Alan Rickman and Jason Isaacs's skill at fleshing out their characters even with limited screen time, etc.

most of you already mentioned my favourite actors in the movies:
1- the old dumbledore
2- snape
3- hagrid
4-mcgonagall
the actors who played Luna, Draco, Moaning moaning myrtle, moody also did a great job they were almost exactly as i imagined how they would be.

the actors whom i think did a bad job portraying their characters were the new albus dumbledore! he's everything but how dd should be! he shouts alot too and ive always imagined dd to be calm and relaxed and easy going.
emma watson in my personal opinion was one of the Worst actors!! she was perfect in the first 2 movies but not in the rest.

i also agree with mad_nose_moody tongue.gif

OMG!

I really dislike Micheal Gambon and his potrail of DD. his beard is too short, he sounds too american and he looks a bit too young, you know what I mean ?

Dan is OK, but he can't cry, did you see him is PoA trying to cry ? It cracked me up can he just scrooed his face up, a bit like I thought Dudley would ( LoL, and sorry if I've aready said this in a past comment tongue.gif )

Evanna is fantastic, she is ( IMO ) the best ( out of the Hogwarts kids ) though I also like Tom and Mattew.

Alan Rickman is the PERFECT Snape!

and Emma's eyebrows ( along with Dan's ) annoy me wink.gif

yes, that's true, but since the POA crying (and GOF come to think of it) were added by the screen-writers and were not in the books, I can forgive that as it isn't the 'true' book Harry and completely the screen-writers' and director's fault. I think Dan would be much better if the screen-writers allowed him to be the Harry as he should be in the book - ie NO crying! tongue.gif

So it's not just me! He doesn't sound entirely american, but not entirely english either.
He has a weird accent I think. Where in britain exactly do you speak like that, do enlighten me.

I very much like Richard Harris, Jason Isaacs, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes...I should throw in some women there too...Ok, Julie Walters. Her voice is a bit more shrill than I imagined, same goes for Maggie Smith but other than that they're fine.
Emma Watson in the first two. What a tragedy that she doesn't act like that anymore.
Oh and Evanna Lynch of course, and Helena Bonham Carter. Also very excellent. HBC was a bit too young I think, she didn't look as she's been to Azkaban for years and was a bit too stylish, but she acted so well I can look past that.
