After the first reading HBP it definatly felt like a let down after all we seen happen in OOTP.  HBP also felt like a fill in the blanks book, like JKR was using it to answer a lot of the fan's questions.

Now, after serveral readings, it seems more like the calm before the storm.  At the end OOTP we see the Voldemort is out in the open. In HPB we seen the Light and Dark sides getting ready for what is to come.  It was a transition from a hidden war to an open war.

I thought HBP was an amazing book and I liked it right away.  In fact, GoF and HBP are my favorites.  I was surprised to see that thread about JKR's downfall.  But I suppose we all have different tastes.  I also disagree that the book didn't have any action in it.  I was glued to the book the entire time... and the ending was jam packed full of action!  And I am a fan of the shipping... so that didn't bother me at all!

As far as quotes go - the one that you listed maciel was very awesome.  It was sort of a moment where Harry comes into his own... he accepts his fate like a man and almost takes a sort of pride in it.  I thought that part was very beautifully written.

I also think the following is an amazing depiction of how close the trio has grown throughout the years and how loyal they are to one another:

"We'll be there, Harry," said Ron.
"What?"
"At your aunt and uncle's house," said Ron.  "And then we'll go with you wherever you're going."
"No-" said HArry quickly; he had not counted on this, he had meant them to understand that he was undertaking this most dangerous journey alone.
"You said to us once before," said Hermoine quiety, "that there was time to turn back if we wanted to.  We've had time, haven't we?"
"We're with you whatever happens," said Ron......
in spite of the final meeting with Voldemort he knew must come, whether in a month, in a year, or in ten, he felt his heart lift at the thought that there was still one last golden day of peace left to enjoy with Ron and Hermoine.

I was definitely tearing up during this last part of the book.  I love this trio and this excerpt just shows the bond that these three have with one another.

"A Wrackspurt... They're invisible.  They float in through your ears and make your brain go fuzzy," she said.  "I thought I felt one zooming around in here."
She flapped her hands in thin air, as though beating off large invisible moths.  Harry and Neville caught each other's eyes and hastilly began to talk of Quidditch.

Ok, that one was wacky.  I couldn't ever imagine any real person like Luna, yet she's so effective and convincing to me that I find myself wanting to meet her!  I totally love her!

First, maciel: English isn't your first language? Wow! I'd never have known if you hadn't've said.

[runs off to get copy of HBP]

I like this one, because it shows how Harry has matured:

"People expect you to have cooler friends than us," said Luna, once again displaying her knack for embarassing honesty.
"You are cool," said Harry shortly. "None of them was at the Ministry. They didn't fight with me."
"That was a very nice thing to say," beamed Luna, and she pushed her Spectrespecs further up her nose and settled down to read The Quibbler.

I have to admit that I was slightly disappointed with HBP the first time that I read it. Not very, but slightly. After my second reading though, my opinion changed. I liked it a lot better the second time around. I agree with those who have said that it seemed less action packed than OotP, and I guess that's why I was a little disappointed. But like I said, after re-reading it seemed a lot better. I think once I had accepted the fact that it was less intriguing (in my opinion) than OotP, I could get into the story more. I agree with  HagridsUncle--after re-reading HBP it does seem like "the calm before the storm". It's still not my favorite of the series or anything, but it's one of my favorites.

The ones that you have posted are some of the same ones I would.  There is another however when Harry met Professor Trelawney after she had heard Draco in the ROR.  Professor Trelawney was talking about her interview for the Divination job

"... but then we were rudely interrupted by Severus Snape!"
"What?"

I totally agree with Harry this piece of information was not given to him when DD supposedly told him everything in the OOP.  I felt like I had been let down by DD and I was angry with him.  Then I felt angry with myself later about being upset at him.

This not my favorite quote but it is the one that shows the last disagreement they have between themselves and Professor Snape.  Even to the end DD was asking for Snape and Harry was saying no. I can't seem to wonder if Harry will ever see DD side of it or not.

Oh my gosh! i loved almost everything Dumbledore said, so much of it moved me to tears. I think my favorite would have to be "Let us step out into the night, and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure." coolest line ever! It sums up exactly how I felt when venturing into this novel.

I have to admit also that the first time I read HBP I was dissapointed. First of all, I attended a midnight party at a Barnes and Noble and I was so excited when I got my book I could barely breathe...and to my horror the first chapter involved the muggle prime minister!!! I was like.."NOOO...I want to hear about Harry and everyone else...!" I was frustrated, at first I didn't feel like there was enough going on..and then Dumbledore...my heart broke...I just balled and balled...terrible...

But, I recently reread the book and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more this time. I have sooo many favorite quotes from this book...a few of which are in my signiture...
I love the part about the Wrackspurts...I talk about them all the time now and most people have no idea what I'm referring to! It's great fun! Pretty much anything relating to Luna makes me smile.
Also, I really enjoyed Harry and Dumbldore's "grown up" talks. To me it feels like Harry did a lot of growing up emotionally, and I like hearing about it all. So many of the Dumbledore parts made me cry...
As a matter of fact, pretty much every quote mentioned in here hit me in one way or another.
Another thing about HBP is that when I normally read books I pay attention to detail about setting and the skies and how things look....in OotP I have a couple of favorite "scenery" parts and now in HBP I've found a few more I enjoy...
Very early on in HBP, and the end of the third chapter I believe, Dumbledore says:
"And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure."
Now, isn't that a quote? smile.gif I don't know why, but it struck me...it's one of many things that just makes me love Dumbledore all the more.

I'm a "word" person...I love quotes and stuff like that...so I'd love to hear about everyone else's favorites! biggrin.gif

Thanks a bunch, mrs norris.  I really don't wish to waste posters' time in reading my posts and not understand what I'm trying to say.  smile.gif

"And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure."

I like this one, too.  Makes you want to step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, too, wouldn't you?

And here's another one:

"The Dark Arts," said Snape, "are many, varied, ever-changing, and eternal.  Fighting them is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a neck is severed, sprouts a head even fiercer and clever than before.  You are fighting that which is unfixed, mutating, indestructible."

Brrr... made me wonder if Snape had practiced that dialogue for years to ready himself for that very moment.  If he happened to be a real person, that is.
