But if you think about it, in Lupin's first DADA class in PoA everyone could see each other's Boggarts. (Snape wearing Neville's grandmother's clothes?! biggrin.gif )

I don't know precisely how it works, but perhaps you need to be the one standing in the boggart's line of sight (if it even has sight?!) for it to turn into your particular worst fear, but everyone else who happens to be near you can see it...or something. wacko.gif Or rather, it needs to be directly in front of you personally...

I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but hopefully you might get what I'm trying to say. rolleyes.gif

That's a good question. I was always under the impression that anyone can see someone else's boggart. We know that Hermione sees Lupin's and along with Snape's werewolf essay, she figured out Lupin was a werewolf. I myself have always wondered if a boggart in it's true form and not that which the person sees as his/her greatest fear can actually be seen.

Or it could be that there has to be only one person facing it. Remember what Lupin says about what happens when two people try to tackle it simultaneously; he said he once saw a boggart trying to scare both people at the same time, turning into half a slug or something. But yes, anyone can see someone else's boggart, as long as they are not "close" enough that the boggart's magic is influenced by the extra person. This is why Lupin didn't want Harry to face the boggart - it wasn't because he didn't think he wouldn't be able to handle it, as Harry orginally thought, but because he assumed that Harry's boggart would be LV, and he didn't think it would be a good idea for everyone else to see this particular boggart.

Thats sort of what I was trying to put across, but not very well! biggrin.gif I meant that if you're not close enough to affect the boggart you would be able to see what the other person's boggart was...I haven't done a very good job explaining what I meant!

You did a fine job of getting your point across! I was just going into more/different details.

yes, this is true because if more people get closer to the boggart, doesn't it get confused and turn into smoke like in Lupin's DADA class? read.gif Harry probably wasn't close enough for the boggart to sense him.

As has been mentioned, all the third years in Lupin's DADA class could see each others Boggarts. For me, it is no different with Harry seeing Molly's - although Molly's is more powerful, with seeing multiple members of her family dead sad.gif

I don't think it's because Harry wasn't close enough for the Boggart to sense him, because didn't Lupin say something about people not being able to see a Boggart's true form because it sensed them before they saw it?

Perhaps then, it was just that Molly's emotions were stronger, and since she wasn't fighting it, it didn't feel it had to bother with Harry? It was busy trying to overpower Molly, and doing a pretty good job of it too.
