The beautiful Boston Park Plaza Hotel and Tower is hosting our event in 2009. Situated in the historic Back Bay area of Boston, it is located near some of the best shopping and site seeing locations in the city! Take a look at their website to see what kind of wonderful ammenties are available.

If you are seeking a roommie, or just want to learn more about the hotel, a stop in this area of the forum is a must! Please be careful when seeking a roommate for the conference, especially if it is someone you do not know very well. Those under 18 are encouraged to have a parent or guardian personally speak with those you may be rooming with, in particular. Please be advised that LeakyCon 2009 cannot be responsible for finding you a roommate, nor are we responsible for how your roommate may behave. All personal information should be exchanged via Private Message (PM) and not posted on the boards for anyone to see.

When they do open up reservations will it just be a matter of reserving the room with a credit card number, or will the room have to be paid in full at the time of the reservation? Just trying to work out the finances so I'll be ready. biggrin.gif

Thats a good question. Although in my travels ive noticed that some hotels place a hold on that card slightly in excess of the total amount, so it's almost like paying for it right then and there. I guess we'll have to see how this one is.

Excellent query, Ameryth74. I will say that I don't have a definite answer on that at the moment, but we are working with the hotel and will have that information available soon. My personal experiences mirror Geekboy's...the hotels I have stayed at in the past have required a credit card to reserve the room, and will charge a penalty if you cancel reservation less than 24-72 hours before you're expected to be there.

This is not the "official" word, just speculation. Hope that I'm right, making this advice actually helpful! wink.gif

My experiences have been the same as MJ's. Usually, at time of booking, the hotel won't charge your card at all - or some will charge for just one night/part of stay - and you pay at checkout. But, if you don't give enough notice for cancellation (usually 24-72 hours before you are due to arrive), then they will charge at least part, if not all (and maybe a little extra) of the total cost for the nights you booked for.

This is how it was for Prophecy - no charge on booking, and a 48 hours (or 72, can't remember) cancellation notice policy.

I'm not sure about this place but I've been going to Gencon in Indianapolis since 2000. THe way the hotels there worked (all 4 of the ones I was in during the past 7 years) was they had either a Fee of $50 or free cancellation of a room till around 3-7 days before check in. If you canceled any time after the cut off date you were charged one full night's stay on the credit card you held the room under. They didn't charge you for the room (if you did go) untill the time of checkout. If you just checked out, they charged the full amount to the credit card you held the room under. Otherwise you could pay for it in any combination of ways. I usually went with 3-5 friends and got a suite, then we all paid at the most one night per person


I personally have never been at a hotel that made you pay for your entire stay in advance.

Thats my experience as well. Might not have come across well in my other post. Could pay with whatever means you wanted at checkout, but required a card to hold the room. What I was saying was they most of the time the hotel would put a hold on the card for the amount of the stay, so it was like paying up front without actually paying up front, because that amount was frozen on the card.

Technically, four. If you request a rollaway or such, you will be charged.

I know in order to register for a room it is required that the entire amount of the stay is available on the credit card. Does that mean from now until the end of the conferece I need to have $600 blocked on my credit card? Or does it just have to be blocked for the weekend of the conference?
