Along with Neville, Dean, Seamus, Lavender and Parvati Patil, Ron and Harry had chosen Care of Magical Creatures for one of their Year 3 electives, whilst Hermione had chosen every single one of the choices on offer. It seems that all the most obnoxious Slytherins had also chosen Care of Magical Creatures, including Crabbe, Goyle, Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson. I'm beginning to wonder if anybody in either house had chosen not to do that particular subject.
Or would they have changed their minds if they knew Hagrid was going to become the Care of Magical Creatures instructor? Hagrid does know his subject thoroughly, to be sure, but that doesn't mean he is not a novice teacher with much to learn about how to teach and how to gain respect from his pupils, even the ones who might not like him. Is Hagrid a particularly safe teacher? And who is really to blame when Draco ignores Hagrid's directive to treat hippogryffs with respect? Poor Buckbeak! Harry gets on fine with Buckbeak, the hippogryff. But Draco's rudeness results in Buckbeak's gashing him in retaliation. Why exactly is so much made of this particular incident? Why does it have to go to the law courts? What is Lucius Malfoy hoping to achieve in this particular court case? Should Buckbeak have to face execution at all because of this incident, and if it was a just decision, should Hermione be also punished for taking a swipe at Draco Malfoy? What does this incident and the Minister of Magic's reaction to Harry's blowing up his Aunt Marge demonstrate about justice in the Wizarding World? Lastly, can anyone really execute a mythical creature? This post has been edited by WaggaWaggaWerewolf: Dec 16 2007, 08:43 PM -------------------- Check out HP Book Club 5 HBP edition. |
