C'mon now... I know someone else here has read it already!! I'm itching to gab about what others thought of this one!

Will it be Peeta or Gale in your mind? Were you surprised Peeta & Katniss were back in the arena? Did you expect that many allies? What were your favorite (or least favorite!) surprises?

And, of course, feel free to talk about the first book in the series and what you think will happen in the third! smile.gif

I've been trying to get hold of The Hunger Games for while as I've heard about it here and from a coworker. Costco has Catching Fire but not the first book! It's infuriating!! But I did finally remember to look for it, when I was at Walmart, and I loved, Loved, LOVED it! It's the first book in a long time that I've dreamed about. lol.gif

When I finished The Hunger Games I was furious. My thought as I gave the book to a coworker (and warned her that the subject matter was disturbing) was that that government HAD to go and this series must be about how it's brought down! She read the book quickly and bought and finished Catching Fire before I could!! I'm very glad to see that this is about bringing that government down.

Katniss's tribute to Rue made me cry.

For me Peeta is the nobrainer answer, but I also realize that's because we've seen so much more of him than of Gale. But what Peeta and Katniss experienced together in the Games changed them, and that's not something Gale can understand even if he watched it. Can Gale give her the same comfort from her nightmares that Peeta has? I don't think so. It's like watching a baby being born and actually giving birth to it. Sorry. No comparison.

I think that the revolution will be the "game" from now on... and I'm excited to see Katniss's survival tactics in the middle of a city while hunting down the president instead of in the middle of the woods!!

I'm with you on this. This whole culture is collapsing, and the big game now is going to be fighting to bring it down. But I can relate with Katniss's anger at finding out that she was just being played by other gamemaker(s).

But I also think like you do, that maybe Gale might acquire a love

Especially after that rather hot kissing session that Finnick interrupts--there's no mention of the cameras being on them, but we know it was. Was Gale watching?

And I must say I laughed out loud when Peeta said Katniss was pregnant!

Questions/Random thoughts
1. I also want to know more about the Avox girl. How will she fit in the big picture?
2. Does anyone besides me hope there is a picture of Peeta hidden in that locket?
3. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but is that pearl going to have any future significance?
4. I'm thinking that Madge and Prim (and perhaps Katniss's mother) will have larger roles.
5. Why exactly does President Snow's breath smell like blood? Is it just his beverage of choice? Just a trait to emphasize how barbaric and inhumane he is?

Some of my questions, too! The president smelling like blood is just plain creepy--ups the creep factor that's already there. I wonder how many presidents there have been over the last 75 years.

I think Peeta is going to be absolutely critical to the storyline and more than just protecting/sacrificing himself for Katniss at some point. Peeta is the thinker, and he has a gift with talking to and moving people. When you overthrow a government you have to have something to replace it or you can end up with chaos. I hope Peeta will be a key player in this.

I knew about District 12 being destroyed because I peeked at Wiki to see which direction the series was going (I'm not normally into spoiling myself, but I needed to do something about my dreams!).

Dang that we have to wait until next year for the conclusion!

I know what you mean! The word mockingjay has been an integral part of a few interesting dreams since I read these books.

Creepy certainly describes Snow. I don't believe there have been many presidents before him; I'm thinking maybe 1 or 2. President Snow was president at the last Quarter Quell, so we know he has ruled over Panem for at least 25 years. Exactly how long he has been president is just one of many questions I have about this character. I find Collins's choice of the name Snow interesting. I tend to think of snow as pure, which this guy who smells like blood certainly isn't. But snow is also cold and can be deadly which fits him spot on.

Collins's interesting character names were something I enjoyed in both books. Some of the names make me wonder about the significance (or lack there of) in her choices.

I just read The Hunger Games aloud to my hubby--we finished last night. Dang if I didn't have dreams again!

Hmmm . . . I hadn't thought about the name significance. I'll have to look closer.
