I've been having trouble with this for some time now. What hair lengths/styles do certain characters have? What hair lengths are more suitable to certain characters?

This thread is for people to dicuss styles they've given their characters, or styles they're considering giving their characters.

I'll start off with one mine. An 8 year old girl has a major haircut as a punishment(from waist length). It has to be a major cut, but not overly traumatic. What length would you suggest? Would she wait before growing it again? Much apprechiated.

well i dont really have any characters lol rolleyes.gif

but as to your 8 year old girl, maby a shoulder length or shoulder-blade length cut?
i like your idea tho its creative... if she's really fond of her hair then it would be a hell of a punishment XD.

Thanks for the tip. I'm glad you think it's creative. Do you think she would keep it that length for a bit before growing it?

I guess that would depend on the type of character you are creating with her. smile.gif If she identifies with her hair, and seems truly contrite for what she did, I would expect her to let it grow back right away. If she is more defiant (such as a Hester Prynne type wink.gif ), I would expect her to keep her hair short, or make it even shorter, to add emphasis to her rebelliousness and desire to define herself.

Thanks alot. I've decided that it'll be cut to about shoulder length. She'll keep it like that for a bit then grow it long again. Now, when she's 12 she has a fire acciedent and her hair has to be cut again. But I'm not sure what length to have it cut to. Any ideas?

I usually write about boys, even though i'm a girl. I usually give the main character short hair, because i don't much like the look of guys with long hair. I'll give one of their friends long hair usually, though, becasue you don't want it to seem like everyone has the same haircut.

For girls, i mostly think of the girls at my school. Most have long, straight hair, but some who are really fashion loving will crimp theirs. I just make a character, think of someone i know who's like them, and model them after her.

Thanks for your comments. Here is the current rundown of how the girl's hair changes. Changes 1-6 out of 12.

1.Waist length at age eight.

2.Cut to collarbone length as a punishment.

3.Over the next year, she grows it to shoulder length and keeps it for a few months.

4.Over the next one and a half years she grows the hair to elbow length.

5.Is involved in an accident which reduces the hair to collarbone length on one side and chin length on the other. She keeps this for a couple of months.

6.She cuts it to neck length, but doesn't keep it like that for long.

At this point she really likes her hair but is kept busy by the intense plot. What do you think of these points?

Thanks for your help.

Here are points 7-12.

7.Grows to collarbone length, aged just over 13.

8.After one year, decides to have a short bob.

9.After a few months, now aged 15, has it cut to ear length.

10.Age 18, has it very short.

11.Age 20, has a bob.

12.Some time later. I have no idea on this one, but I'm thinking of a long length.

What do you think? Thanks.
