I'm glad our advice is helping, pranko!

You can easily add the emblem after the scarf is knit using duplicate stitch. There's a great tutorial for it here. You could use the chart for the wine cozy, and stitch it directly over your knit stitches, and it would look just like it was knit right in from the beginning! Just remember that one square = one stitch.

As of right now, I don't know of any patterns for a Hufflepuff illusion scarf. Being a tried and true 'puff, myself, I sure wish there was one. If you happen to run across one, be sure to let us know! If the pace of my life ever slows down enough, I may have a go at creating a pattern for it. If so, I'll be sure to post it for everyone.

I know that the "accurate" pattern for the SS/CoS scarves (the ones with even bars) is done in the round, with only knit stitches, whereas the PoA/GoF scarves, which was at first believed to be all knitted in the round, is actually supposed to be done in ribbing (so k1, p1) in the round.

The PoA/GoF movie scarves were actually done in k1, p1 ribbing? That's interesting to know! I've made four Hogwarts scarves (one for each house, in fact!), and I did them all in k2, p2 ribbing--back and forth, single layer, rather than in the round. Three of them were for people in Virginia, one for someone in North Carolina, so the winters aren't cold enough that a two-layer tubular scarf would be worn much.

My scarf is in "movie colors" because I happened to have a skein of grey wool, but the books are my first love (or my first-through-seventh loves!), so I want to make myself another one in blue and bronze. Let's see, 1-1 ribbing pulls up a little more tightly than 2-2, so I'll have to try a couple of swatches on needles a size or two larger than my first scarf...

That's what Lauren Kent (from the ever so cool atypically.knit.net) told me. She gave us permission to post the SS/PS pattern, but told us not to upload the PoA/GoF one straight away, as she had to re-write it in ribbing. She added a note that people would probably hate her by the end of it, with all that ribbing in the round to do, but that she realised that it was the most accurate way to do it.

Q: Can you embroider on knitting? I haven't started my puff scarf yet, but I know I either want a motif on it or maybe write hufflepuff, and I wonder what the best way to do that would be? I was thinking that either I embroider it directly on the scarf, if I can but then the question is 'how?', or I'll embroider it seperately, cut it out and sew it on, or maybe I do it the 'house wine cozy' way, that's to say just knit it but that seems awfully tricky without a pattern.
Thoughts?
And is there by any chance a pattern to a puff illusion scarf somewhere?

I'm designing a pattern for a Hufflepuff scarf! I saw the question back here and thought why not. I'm so excited to see how it's going to turn out. I'm in the graphing stage right now. woohoo.gif

I may do a Slytherin one too if the Hufflepuff one is successful.

...or maybe I do it the 'house wine cozy' way...

Sorry, what house wine cozy is that? *Looks for it on craft site but doesn't find it*

ETA: Doh! And two minutes after I post I find it. Go figure. Cool charts! I really like the Gryffindor one, though the Ravenclaw looks like a bluebird! LOL

Back to work on the House Unity Scarf of my own design... I still have time to decide if I want house symbols on it or if I'll leave it simple and plain.

Where does one post ones projects here? Just make a new thread to show it off? And then do you need to send a separate e-mail to submit it to the craft site? (And are they taking submissions now since it's still getting transfered over to the new system?)

I hope I get it done in the next week! It's LOOONG!

Hi, MissJubilee!

There's a House Unity Scarf thread here that you can post your pictures in.

We'd also love to have your tutorial and are always taking submissions. Jen will most likely snag your pictures from the thread you post them in for the gallery, but if you would like us to add your pattern to the forum and the main site, you will have to e-mail us the pattern and pics so we can get it uploaded.

Make sure to include the name you want the pattern under, a complete supply list, detailed instructions, instruction pics (if necessary), gauge, finished measurements, final product pics, and the blog/website/LJ that the pattern can be found on (if any).

Yarn for Ravenclaw book style bronze
I thought I had posted something about this in one of the Craft threads, but I can't find that now. I've recently come across a few yarns that (to my eyes) would be a good bronze! Two of them are inexpensive and widely available in chain stores like Michaels and Wal-Mart.

Red Heart Soft in Paprika is 100% acrylic--important for people who are allergic or super-sensitive to wool. You can see a (small) sample of the color here, about two-thirds of the way down the page, but it looks too red, at least on my monitor. In the store, there's more brown in it.

Lion Wool-Ease in Sienna--a color name which many artists may recognize as a reddish brown--is also a good bronze. Wool-Ease is a wool-acrylic blend. You can see it here, in the fourth row from the top.

Both the Red Heart Soft and Wool-Ease yarns are easy-care, so you can put them in the washing machine and dryer. I don't know why it took so long for me to notice these colors!

Cestari Spice Heather
is a wool yarn from Chester Farms in the state of Virginia. In spite of the name, I've thought of it as the perfect bronze from the first time I saw it in a shop. I'm knitting a PoA-style Ravenclaw scarf right now using it. This is a rather scratchy wool, so I'd have doubts about using it for the broad stripes of a SS/PS scarf.

I hope this helps some other Ravenclaw book lovers!

Does anyone know if there are any patterns available for the sweater Hermione wears in the OotP movie? The scarlet one with gold stripes. I really love that and I want to try to make it.

While there is not a pattern yet that we know of for this sweater, MagicDucks, there are a couple of options for getting one!

Check out this thread on Craftster, which is dedicated to OotP knitwear discussion. There is also a LiveJournal community called hpknitting that is a great pattern source for all forms of Potter knitting!

Good luck on your sweater, and make sure to keep us posted on your progress!!

I believe I did see a pattern, but only for the grey sweater with all different colored stripes (the one she has on some of the posters)... I'm sure someone will come up with the one you're mentionning though!
