Jo mentioned that generally people display magical abilities early on in life but that in extreme situations a person, who has shown no magical abilities earlier may use magic later in life.

We know this will happen in Deathly Hallows, but the burning question is who?

Weigh in here to tell us who you think it will be:

I like the idea of Aberforth (and I voted for him) ...although I'm not sure if he "counts" since we know he performed magic earlier ("inappropriate charms on a goat")...

I like the idea of Aberforth helping Harry in some small - but important - way.

I voted for Filch, because he's a Squib, and he had that Qwikspell course... Who knows, maybe took enough correspondance courses to finally pull it off?

I also voted that he'd do it defending someone he loves *cough* Madam Pince *cough* *cough*, and that he'd enroll in Hogwarts Night School program. smile.gif

I am convinced it is Dudley. I believe he actually saw the Dementors in OOTP. I think that is why the attack effected him so much. It would also explain why Dumbledore accused the Dursley's of mistreating him in the HBP. Plus, I think it would be poetic justice for the Dursleys to have an "abnormal" member of the family after all.

I think it is Dudley. It would be perfectly fitting for the Dursleys, who hate magic, to have a son who turns out to be a wizard.

My vote is completely on PETUNIA (EVANS)DURSLEY! It will even shock HER when she performs magic and Vernon will say something like "...Petunia?...Dear?"

I think it's Argus Filtch. It has to be something where there is a threat in Hogwarts and Filtch realizes that he could loose the school (morelike his position) if someone doesn't confront it. So his Squib lessons pay off - but only once.

Cheers,

This wasn't an option in the poll, but of the three Dursleys, wouldn't it make most sense for Aunt Petunia to be the one to perform magic late in life? After all, her sister is Lily who was a very talented witch, and her jealousy that she had those powers was a large reason for shunning the Potters. I think that when the enchantment guarding the Durseys house is lifted, it would be likely that the Death Eaters would come, and in her desperation to protect her family, she would accidentally use magic. There is supposed to be more than meets the eye about Aunt Petunia, and she does know more about the wizarding world than she is letting on.

I think it's Aunt Petunia. I know JKR mentioned she is just a muggle, but there is more... But I still think it's her. But I voted for Alberforth. Goats and everything.
