DOBBY Although many house elves work in the Wizarding World, and they do a splendid job catering for Hogwarts Wizarding Academy, Dobby is the first house elf we meet in the series. He seems a bit of an oddball, who mistreats himself, because he has disobeyed his masters. He wears a tatty old pillowcase and seems to admire Harry, who treats him better than his masters. In COS, Dobby wants to stop Harry returning to Hogwarts. But why? What is the plot that this house elf fears so much? Dobby finally gets his freedom from the Malfoys, the owners to whom he is enslaved, and whom he despises. However, he has to suffer the disapproval of other house elves, and is eventually killed by Bellatrix. Were the Malfoys really such bad masters to justify Dobby's rebellion? How free was Dobby really, after Lucius gave him Harry's sock? Were some of the things he did, such as tampering with the bludger, Dobby's idea, or did Draco suggest it to him? How was Dobby able to hang around Privet Drive for a whole summer to stop Harry's mail? Who gave him permission to be absent from Malfoy Manor for so long, and why? What was he doing at Hogwarts, to be able to tamper with the bludger? -------------------- Check out Book Number 5 POA edition. |
