It was one of the most hotlly anticipated images from the forthcoming OotP film - Imelda Staunton as Dolores Jane Umbridge!

In the books, she is described as follows..

QUOTE
She looked just like a large, pale toad. She was rather squat with a broad, flabby face, as little neck as Uncle Vernon and a very wide, slack mouth. Her eyes were large, round and slightly bulging. Even the little black velvet bow perched on top of her short curly hair put him in mind of a large fly she was about to catch on a long sticky tongue.

and...

QUOTE
She looked "like somebody's maiden aunt: squat, with short, curly, mouse-brown hair in which she had placed a horrible pink Alice band that matched the fluffy pink cardigan she wore over her robes.

So does Imelda stand up to your vision of one of the most stadistic teachers ever to enter Hogwarts?

I think she's too petite/pretty for Umbridge - I'm sure she'll act the part superbly as she's a brilliant actress, but she doesn't look right, no matter how much pink they put her in. Toad-like and flabby are not adjectives which spring to mind looking at those images. Umbridge needs to be fat and ugly!

I've said before in the casting thread that my perfect choice for Umbridge would be Annette Badland, but ho hum...

Shouldn't really whinge about it, they've been pretty spot-on with most of their casting so far clap.gif

I'm not sure whether to vote perfect or almost perfect. In the top pic with her throwing Trelawney out, she looks exactly like a pink toad. Well, a toad-looking person, anyhowz. She disctincly has the look & attitude of an evil, despicable loathsome pink toad. In the second pic she looks kind of like a distant relative of the Queen taking afternoon tea. But, at least they got it right with her office. They actually took notice of the importance of her decor, as part of her personality.
It will be interesting to see her in motion. wizard.gif

I think at the moment she looks almost perfect - maybe a bit too pretty - I would have imagined a far uglier face. My son said he thought she would be fatter lol.gif

I voted none of the above. tongue.gif If there had been a so-so response I would've chosen that.

Her facial expressions in those photos are perfect, as well as the wardrobe and office decor, but her physical traits are a lot more attractive than the Umbridge I had pictured. But I think that won't matter. I think she'll be perfect when we see her in action.

Well, I may very well be one in a million, but I dont like her. She seems to pretty for the roll. And theres no pink bow on her head.
I guess even though she is a fat toad, I still imagined her face to be sallow and darker.
She may very well be great in action though. She may truly turn out to be a brilliant Umbridge.
Time will tell.

I voted almost perfect. I do like the look a lot. The pink clothes, the perfectly coifed hair, and she does look short/squat in the Sacking Trelawny image. She's not really toadlike though, so I had to vote the way I did.

I'm not quite a fan of her look. She is not "magic" enough for me. Has nothing of a witch, actually. She reminds me a bit Vernon's sister! sad.gif

I'm not complaining though. I'm sure she'll do a great job as an actrice in OTP... But the look is far from what I imagine(d) when reading the book.
